<p><strong>ABOUT VA SALT LAKE CITY HEALTH CARE SYSTEM</strong></p> <p>Veterans Association (VA) Salt Lake City Health Care System, located in Salt Lake City, Utah, offers both <strong>residential</strong> and <strong>outpatient</strong> substance use disorder treatment for <strong>adult service members and veterans</strong>. It's <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/UT16.pdf" target="_blank">one of just two</a> Utah treatment facilities operated by the federal government, and <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/UT16.pdf" target="_blank">one of 57</a> treatment facilities in the state (23 percent) to provide programming specifically tailored to veterans. Medically managed <strong>detox services</strong> are available on-site.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>In order to be admitted for treatment, Veterans will first receive a comprehensive mental health and substance use evaluation. Treatment options range from short-term outpatient counseling and an <strong>intensive outpatient program (IOP)</strong> to 24-hour residential care for those in need of a more structured treatment approach. </p> <p>The facility’s programs utilize <strong>evidence-based practices</strong>, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and motivational enhancement therapy (MET). Other modalities include <strong>self-help groups</strong>, marriage and <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/the-pain-of-addiction-in-the-family-how-counseling-can-help/" target="_blank">family counseling</a>, and <a href="https://www.recovery.org/topics/extended-recovery-programs/" target="_blank">continued care</a>/relapse prevention following treatment.</p> <p>Clients may also be prescribed medication to help ease cravings or treat <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring disorders</a>. The VA's website also notes that it provides <strong>medication-assisted therapy (MAT)</strong>, which may include the use of methadone or buprenorphine/naltrexone for <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/why-are-opiate-addicts-so-hard-to-treat/" target="_blank">opioid dependency</a>.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its treatment staff. The one former client surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility gave four out of five stars for its accommodations and amenities, and five out of five stars for its cleanliness. </p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The one alum polled by Rehabs.com to date, an anonymous male over the age of 60, gave the Salt Lake City VA highly positive feedback. He noted that he would recommend the program to friends and family, and awarded the facility five out of five stars for its treatment of co-occurring disorders, its administrative and discharge procedures, its family participation, and its affordability. HIs one complaint was that the program was not long enough.</p> <p>On Google<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small>, the Salk Lake City VA as a whole earned an average rating of <strong>3.7 out of five stars</strong> based on 17 reviews.
