<p><strong>ABOUT CORNERSTONE OF RECOVERY YOUNG ADULT RECOVERY PROGRAM</strong></p> <p>Cornerstone of Recovery has provided a haven for people facing addiction challenges at an affordable cost since 1989. <strong>Treating young men and women ages 18 to 26 for chemical dependency</strong>, this is one of the state's only <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/TN16.pdf" target="_blank">45 (19.8 percent)</a> substance abuse centers specifically tailored for young adults. This Young Adult <strong>Residential Recovery Program</strong> offers medically-supervised detoxification with <strong>24-hour support and comprehensive rehab</strong> focused on the developmental issues, behavior styles, and energy levels unique to young people.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>The treatment philosophy combines <strong>12-step principles and meetings</strong> with education, medical and psychological addiction treatment, <strong>psychiatric evaluation and care</strong>, activity therapy, and fitness classes to meet the needs of the whole person. In Tennessee, <a href="https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/NSDUHsaePercents2016/NSDUHsaePercents2016.pdf" target="_blank">7.3 percent of young adults</a> ages 18 to 25 exhibited illicit drug use disorder as of 2016.</p> <p>Individual, group, and <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/the-pain-of-addiction-in-the-family-how-counseling-can-help/" target="_blank">family therapy</a> are offered alongside a <strong>life skills education program</strong> that helps young adults work towards financial independence, establish long-term goals, and develop a sense of respect for authority figures. Young adults also take part in <strong>healthy recreational outings, such as hiking and bowling.</strong></p> <p>Family members are encouraged to attend weekly individual counseling sessions with their loved one as well as twice-weekly peer group family meetings. <strong>An extended <a href="https://www.recovery.org/topics/extended-recovery-programs/" target="_blank">aftercare program</a></strong>, which includes <strong>outpatient therapy and supportive living</strong>, is available for residential graduates for up to 18 months following treatment.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The facility is staffed with <strong>trained medical and addiction treatment personnel</strong> - doctors, nurses, and counselors - many of whom are in recovery themselves. All residential and clinical activities take place in the same building, however, meals are served in the main dining hall, which is in the Adult Treatment Center facility, a short walk away. The five individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date reported clean accommodations, but felt the facility lacked extracurricular or alternative activity opportunities.</p> <blockquote> <p>Facility Cleanliness and Upkeep: 4/5<br /> Holistic Offerings: 2.4/5</p> </blockquote> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>Reviews from six alumni to date reveal <strong>both positive and negative experiences</strong> with this facility. Above-average ratings of three, four, or five stars were given by all former clients to exercise activities, the level of family participation, and the center's effectiveness in treating co-occurring disorders. "Staff support" was cited by one reviewer as a facility strength, and alum M.T.F. noted that he has already recommended the center to others,** adding: "This place opened my eyes & saved my life."</p> <p>Holistic offerings, counseling options, and affordability all received some above-average ratings, but all also received a few two-star ratings from former clients. Z.H. felt the facility was "Crowded," but alumni noted no other complaints.</p> <p>Reviews from 19 users on Google, where the facility earned an average rating of <strong>4.6 out of five stars</strong>, praised the "terrific treatment," the learned "tools," and the "knowledgeable staff."<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> One of the few neutral reviewers, R.S., did note: "Most of their counselors are other addicts some of which need more counseling themselves and don't need to be in the positions they are in."</p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>Six loved ones shared <strong>a range of positive experiences and criticisms</strong> with Rehabs.com to date. Janet, whose son attended the rehab facility, stated that she “would not trust this facility with my teenage child,” adding: “His withdrawal time was not sufficient and not monitored as I was told it would be. He was denied prescribed medications.” She gave just two stars to staff level of support and counseling options, and only one star to the level of family participation, aftercare options, and holistic offerings.</p> <p>In another disappointing report, loved one A.T. wrote, “They told my daughter she was toxic to the others, they ended up kicking her out and taking her to the mission which is in the worst part of Knoxville. She was 23.” A.T. gave low, one- or two-star ratings for most categories surveyed, and selected <strong>strongly disagree</strong> when asked if she would recommend this facility. The third dissatisfied loved one, D.R., critiqued the “uneducated” staff members and family counseling they considered “laughable.”</p> <p>On the other hand, the other three family members and friends agreed on positive experiences at this facility. All three gave five out of five stars for counseling options, staff support, and family programs. One of these individuals commented on their loved one's success, adding: "Now works in a treatment center."</p> <p><strong>WHAT STAFF SAY</strong></p> <p>Rehabs.com responses from over a dozen staff members at the time of this writing revealed largely positive sentiments about this facility. Nearly all respondents gave four or five stars for the center's ability to treat co-occurring disorders, and all but two indicated strict adherence to the 12-steps.</p> <p>Ratings for the quality of client care were predominately four or five stars, with just a few three-star ratings. "Extremely devoted and experienced staff," and "Comprehensive programs clinically based," are representative strengths listed by facility staff. Those who cited facility weaknesses suggested adding more beds, and one representative reviewer wrote: "I would like for more people without insurance to be able to receive care."</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>Cornerstone of Recovery accepts self-pay and is in-network with many major health insurance plans. The organization does not participate with Medicaid or Medicare but encourages prospective clients to speak with on-staff financial counselors to discuss alternative payment options.
