Editorial Review

ABOUT EASTWAY BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE - THE LODGE

The Lodge is one of four facilities operated by Eastway Behavioral Healthcare that provide safe housing and services to adults seeking treatment for mental illness. Founded in 1949, Eastway is one of 316 (77.3 percent) of private, nonprofit organizations in Ohio, and is focused on housing, employment, and mental health care for adults, children, and adolescents.

The Lodge functions as a transitional housing and treatment facility offering 24-hour assistance for clients who need help achieving mental stability, building support systems, and developing plans for living sober and healthy lives. No detox services are available on-site at The Lodge.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The treatment process at The Lodge is focused on providing stability through multiple methods. To participate, clients must have a diagnosed mental illness that is treated by the facility. Clients are admitted to the transitional housing unit for monitored care and a place to live during treatment.

The overall goal of the treatment process is to prepare clients for a functional life with limited or no intervention by care providers. The process begins with creating a stable and calming environment. Clients can learn skills and put them into practice within the facility. There are four types of housing available.

Clients in the Co-op Apartments live as a part of the larger community. They focus on learning to live with others and help manage the care of the facility under the supervision of staff members. The Independent Living facility follows a similar method where clients live on their own with oversight from staff members.

Clients also have the option of transitional housing, which serves as a bridge into a different living situation. Some clients use it as a step-down process for more restrictive methods of treatment. Clients can also partner with social services in the affiliated foster care program if more assistance is needed over the long term.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Treatment and other supportive services through Eastway are provided via a client’s primary provider who collaborates with psychiatrists, nurses, and specialists in community support, housing, and employment.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The Lodge is in Dayton’s Twin Towers neighborhood across the street from a Catholic church. The facility has well-manicured front and back lawns enclosed inside small stone walls.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of this writing, Rehabs.com has received one alumni survey response about the Lodge. They gave three out of five stars to 10 out of 15 categories, including affordability, family participation, and its holistic offerings. The alum gave four out of five stars for its level of cleanliness and the staff's level of training and experience. “Could use an update of the facilities. It is a little bit drab but clean," the anonymous alum wrote.

On Facebook, where the facility can manage its page, Eastway Behavioral Healthcare has an average rating of 3.7 out of five stars from five reviews to date.[1] "Thank you to all the doctors, nurses and caseworkers that actually go out there way to show that they care and make everyone feel like somebody," David wrote to Facebook in the only written feedback about treatment.

WHAT STAFF SAY

While Rehabs.com has received no reviews from staff at the time of this writing, 16 former and current employees left ratings of 3.3 out of five stars on Indeed.[2] Generally, staffers appreciated their co-workers and the impact they made in the community.
