The facility's Behavioral Health unit offers a range of outpatient services for adults struggling with substance abuse as well as dual-diagnosis disorders. The center's website does not indicate whether detoxification services are provided on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to Miami Valley Hospital's website, the facility offers several outpatient programs for treatment of substance abuse and co-occurring disorders: intensive outpatient (IOP), traditional outpatient (OP) care, and a dual diagnosis-specific IOP. All are designed to deliver a high level of support and training in coping skills.

Turning Point is the IOP (Intensive Outpatient Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program), which was established at this facility in the 1970s. Clients attend three times per week for six weeks, either in the morning or evening. The curriculum includes education, group therapy, family therapy, and biweekly individual therapy. The staff use a client-centered approach to plan treatment objectives to help clients meet their goals. In addition, the unit offers an OP for those whose “addiction is less severe", which helps clients maintain consistent motivation and abstinence from substance use.

The IOP dual diagnosis program is based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and includes three group therapy sessions per week. Clients learn trigger identification, relapse prevention, and communication, as well as grief, stress and anger management, and the 12-step framework. Medication management and psychiatric services are provided under the care of a psychiatrist. Clients typically participate in the program for three to four weeks. Sessions for family members of clients also are offered.

The center coordinates discharge planning with referrals to continuing outpatient care and offers a weekly dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) group.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The treatment team includes physicians, therapists, and mental health experts. No additional information was provided at the time of this writing concerning the qualifications of treatment staff.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Miami Valley Hospital’s Behavioral Health unit and its various outpatient programs are centrally located in Dayton. Reviewers offered both positive and negative views of their experiences, mainly in the emergency room and maternity ward. Some praised the prompt, courteous, effective care they received whereas others complained of long waits, rude treatment, and billing problems. That said, 453 out of the total of 578 reviewers on Facebook, or 78 percent, rated the facility either the top five stars and four out of five stars.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The sole loved one polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing had an overall positive impression of the center, as reflected in the ratings for the major categories of the survey: four out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, perfect five stars for accommodations and amenities, and another perfect five stars for meals and nutrition.

The anonymous loved one continued that highly favorable rating pattern for the balance of the metrics evaluated: five stars for facility cleanliness and upkeep; and four out of five stars for affordability, connectivity/visitor policy, counseling options, family participation, holistic offerings, likelihood to recommend, and staff experience and training. The dual diagnosis program accepts Medicare, Medicaid, and most insurance.

[2] facebook.com/miamivalleyhospital/reviews/?ref=page_internal
[3] https://www.yelp.com/biz/miami-valley-hospital-dayton-13
[4] https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Miami-Valley-Hospital/reviews
[5] https://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Miami-Valley-Hospital-Reviews-E20287.htm
