ABOUT PRESBYTERIAN - SERVICES AND CENTERS - BEHAVIORAL HEALTH

In operation for more than 100 years, Presbyterian is a nonprofit healthcare system dedicated to serving individuals and communities of New Mexico through a number of hospitals. Through its behavioral health department in Albuquerque, the established nonprofit offers a range of recovery programs for individuals struggling with substance abuse, psychiatric concerns, and co-occurring disorders.

The facility offers inpatient care for adults and youth, intensive outpatient programs (IOP) for adults, and counseling services for adults and adolescents ages 13 and up. Suboxone therapy is also available through IOP for individuals struggling with opioid dependency. Presbyterian is one of 24 facilities in New Mexico to offer Suboxone treatment.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Presbyterian’s behavioral health department provides treatment in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Taking place in two separate units, one for children and teens and one for adults, inpatient care includes assessments and consultations, programming for substance abuse, links to community supports, and crisis intervention.

There is also an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for adults struggling with substance abuse. In this eight-week program, broken up into 24 sessions, which are available in both mornings and evening, licensed addiction therapists help adults develop effective coping skills and learn about the addiction and recovery processes from emotional and biological perspectives. Graduates of IOP typically continue with the program’s aftercare support group.

Individual substance abuse counseling is designed to help teens and adults improve their various life skills to promote recovery. These skills may include refusal skills, communication skills, assertiveness, stress reduction, and more. In New Mexico, Presbyterian is among the 30.9 percent of facilities to provide specialized programming for adolescents.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Presbyterian's behavioral health team consists of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners and registered nurses, psychiatric social workers, therapists, and behavioral health technicians.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

According to the facility's website, patients in the hospital's inpatient program are housed in private rooms. The single Rehabs.com survey respondent gave the hospital five stars for its accommodations, meals, and the facility's overall cleanliness.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The single Rehabs.com survey respondent to date, an anonymous alum, gave this Presbyterian facility mostly five-star ratings for a dozen different areas evaluated, including the staff’s level of training and experience, family participation, and the effectiveness of co-occurring disorder treatment. “Was good for me," they wrote.

Reviews on secondary sites are more negative. Five out of six Google reviewers gave the hospital's behavioral health unit only one out of five stars. Jacque complained that the hospital refused to accept her child “even tho she said she was suicidal and there were several examples of her risky behavior, including self harming behaviors."[1] Lurea, another Google reviewer, however, wrote of her son’s involuntary yet highly successful time spent in treatment. “Although my son hated being there he admitted that it was actually a nice place and was taken care of,” she wrote.

FINANCING

All Presbyterian hospitals accept private insurance, as well as self-payment in the form of cash, checks, debit and credit card. Financial assistance and discounted rates may be available for the uninsured and underinsured.

[1] Google Reviews
