The center's addiction treatment provisions consist of a long-term sober living program exclusively for homeless men and women.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The mission's sober living program lasts from nine months to a year; it is one of only 40 substance abuse treatment facilities in Kentucky (just 11 percent) to provide non-hospital residential treatment that lasts longer than 30 days.

The program includes case management services, group community meetings, five days of weekly recovery classes, as well as work therapy, which consists of classroom education, vocational training, and 40 hours a week of hands-on work experience at the mission's two thrift stores. In 2017, less than half (40 percent) of Kentucky treatment facilities provided employment counseling or training for clients.

Residents also participate in classes on topics such as literacy, computing, and critical thinking, and have access to a college and career program that collaborates with 15 local educational centers and seminaries.

Among the center's most successful programs is Hotel Louisville, a local hotel run by individuals in recover. The hotel is also home to several other nonprofits, including a children's wish-granting program, healthcare for individuals in need, and a resilient families program.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Although there is no information available regarding staff credentials, the sole alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave a rating of three out of five stars for the staff's level of experience and training.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There's a chapel on the grounds of the Wayside Christian Mission, and as noted above, some clients sleep and work at the organization's hotel. They also listed "food" as a weakness of the facility.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The one former client surveyed by Rehabs.com to date, an anonymous 40 to 59-year-old male, gave the mission's sober living program mostly positive feedback. They praised the program's individualized recovery planning, and gave the center four out of five stars for its affordability and its family participation. They also awarded the mission three out of five stars for its counseling options. When asked, on a scale from one to five, if he would recommend the facility, the alum gave a rating of three.
