Editorial Review

ABOUT TURNINGLEAF WELLNESS CENTER

Located in the community of St. George, Utah, TurningLeaf Wellness Center provides outpatient-based services for adults and adolescents seeking treatment for chemical dependency or mental health difficulties. It is a part of the 28.5 percent of Utah facilities with programs specifically for adolescents. The facility provides an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and aftercare to treat substance abuse disorders and facilitates individual counseling sessions for individuals seeking treatment for mental health concerns. Detox is not available.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The treatment process begins with an initial assessment to determine each client’s needs. While substance abuse assessments are common among treatment facilities, only 66.9 percent of facilities in Utah complete a mental health assessment as well. These assessments are used to create a comprehensive treatment plan. The assessment process can take up to two and a half hours when accounting for paperwork, the assessments, and the 30-minute follow-up meeting with an admission specialist.

Along with core treatment programming, TurningLeaf Wellness Center facilitates specialized workshops and seminars, which may serve as adjunct treatments, and specialized IOP tracks that may be recommended due to the initial assessment. These seminars and workshops focus on specific skills and focus areas needed for sober living. The seminars can last up to three days each and target different levels of progress through the program.

TurningLeaf Wellness Center's personalized intensive outpatient program (IOP) lasts for 18 weeks. Initially, the program requires nine hours of weekly programming for the first nine weeks. As the client progresses, they decrease in session frequency. Unique to TurningLeaf Wellness Center, its IOP is comprised of separate components, which are determined by individual needs.

Available IOP program tracks also include Value-Based Parenting, relapse prevention, Mind/Body Connection, and a Prime for Life track for individuals who received a DUI or Minor Consumption charge. Only 41.4 percent of facilities offer a DUI component. The goal of integrating various program tracks into a comprehensive intensive outpatient program is to provide highly individualized and relevant programming.

During IOP, regardless of its specific curriculum, clients may attend group and individual counseling sessions, skill-building workshops, and educational classes. After IOP, TurningLeaf Wellness Center requires clients to attend an eight-week aftercare program.

In addition to its substance abuse-focused IOP, TurningLeaf Wellness Center provides individual counseling sessions for individuals seeking treatment for a range of mental health concerns, from depression and anxiety to eating disorders and intimacy issues. Along with these one-on-one sessions, the center facilitates regular workshops and seminars that focus on various topics, such as improving coping skills, communication, fitness and emotions, and understanding relationships. Counselors may encourage clients to attend specific workshops while continuing one-on-one therapy sessions.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Led by a clinical director, who is a clinical psychologist, TurningLeaf Wellness Center employs a team of substance abuse counselors, mental health therapists, clinical social workers, and life coaches.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The sole alum polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing indicated that TurningLeaf Wellness Center was highly beneficial.
