Services & Treatment

Editorial Review

ABOUT THE CROSSROADS CENTER

Founded in 1976, the Crossroads Center is a nonprofit agency that provides substance use and mental health treatment services to individuals living in Cincinnati and Hamilton County, Ohio. Substance use services consist of residential and outpatient services for adults, and outpatient services for adolescents aged 12 to 18.

The center does not provide a traditional, inpatient medical detox program, but it does offer buprenorphine, methadone, and naltrexone programs in both a detox setting and maintenance doses for individuals struggling with addiction to narcotics.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The adult residential care (ARC) program is intended as a short-term measure only, though the precise length of treatment varies according to the client’s needs. The center is a non-medical community for men and women aged 18+, and includes crisis intervention services; individual, group, and family counseling; case management; drug screenings; and medical services. The program accepts dually diagnosed individuals and those involved in the legal system, aiming to break the re-offending cycle by treating their mental and behavioral health disorders.

Once residential clients are ready, they progress to an intensive outpatient program (IOP) that meets for three hours, three days per week. The center’s IOP and general outpatient programs offer similar modalities to residential treatment. The outpatient-based programs have dual diagnosis options and treatment tracks for process addictions such as gambling addiction.

The Chaney Allen Program offers culturally-sensitive residential and outpatient treatment for women, especially those who are pregnant and have dependent children. In addition to therapy, the program offers life skills training and specialized courses on trauma, neglect, and other frequently arising topics. Two children under the age of five may live with their mothers during treatment, and the facility provides state-licensed childcare for them, enabling their mothers to focus on their recovery.

The family-centric Adolescent Outpatient Program serves teens ages 12 to 18. Depending on a teen’s specific needs, treatment — consisting of assessments and individual and group sessions — may take place at home, in school, or on-site at the facility.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The team includes an MD, a nurse, social workers, a master’s level counselor, and certified addiction counselors. The five individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the matter felt that the staff was well-trained and experienced.

Staff's Level of Experience and Training: 4.6/5

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings; however, the five individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date felt the facility was clean and well-maintained.

Facility's Cleanliness and Upkeep: 4.4/5

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

All three of the alumni polled by Rehabs.com tended to praise the facility's staff. One alum, who was polled on the center’s staff support and the overall quality of its individual and group counseling, gave the facility five stars in each of these categories. The other two alumni gave the center conflicting ratings of one and five stars for its family participation and two and five stars for its counseling options.

However, the reviewers’ commentary was uniformly positive. “This facility was great and would recommend it to anyone,” Linda wrote, and Ruben added: “Wonderful staff.”

At the time of this writing, the center had a 2.4 out of five-star average rating based on 14 reviews on Google reviews.[1] The reviewers repeatedly cited a lack of care and attention as well as administrative frustrations. “Besides the fact that the staff treats most people like animals, they do not care about even your physical health if it doesn't fit their schedule,” Danielle wrote in one representative review.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Both loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date would recommend this facility. The reviewers gave the facility four- and five-star ratings in most of the evaluated treatment metrics, including its treatment for co-occurring disorders, and both reviewers praised the staff. “Good staff that seems knowledgeable and extremely helpful,” an anonymous loved one wrote.

Both reviewers also hinted that supervision might be somewhat lax. “There seemed to be quite a bit of alone time,” the same alum quoted above wrote, while the other cited “unclear visitor rules.”

WHAT STAFF SAY

The sole staff member polled by Rehabs.com to date also felt favorable towards the facility, offering perfect five-star ratings for the facility's counseling options, its discharge planning, and the level of family participation.
