ABOUT PROSPECT HOUSE

From a pretty tree-lined street in a residential neighborhood three miles west of central Cincinnati, nonprofit Prospect House is a 60-bed facility that provides one of the state's only 71 (17.4 percent) long-term residential treatment programs. This program is exclusively for men struggling with addiction, placing it amongst Ohio's 168 (41.1 percent) gender-specific treatment centers. Founded in 1970, the program is designed for men who do not have access to money or insurance. Prospect House provides counseling services as well as assistance with a range of legal problems and/or employment issues.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment at Prospect House is based on the 12-Steps, and the center holds Alcoholics Anonymous meetings on the premises. Clients participate in a scheduled regime of counseling sessions, group meetings, educational courses, and recreational activities. Treatment can last from six months to eighteen months based on a client’s involvement in transitional housing programs. The facility uses a holistic approach to addressing addiction and related issues. There is a monthly meeting on-site for alumni.

According to the facility’s website, the program aims to teach clients a whole new way of life, and offers long-term treatment because this process cannot be rushed. Though the center provides little further information about its program, an alum review submitted to Rehabs.com indicated that the client received minimal holistic treatment, but excellent individual and group counseling, and that he participated in several group counseling sessions per day. CiteHealth indicates that the center offers dedicated programming for individuals struggling with HIV and AIDS and members of the LGBTQ community.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Each member of the all-male counseling staff at Prospect House is in recovery. According to its 2012 tax return, the center employs 28 staff members in total. The single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the center five out of five stars for the level of training found in its counselors.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings; however, given that this is a 60-bed facility, there is likely a high level of availability for new clients, as the average number of individuals in residential treatment was 18 clients, as of 2016. In addition, the single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the center three out of five stars for its accommodations and five stars for its meals and its cleanliness.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave positive feedback. “Good place to recover,” Harold wrote, giving the center five out of five stars for its staff support, its overall effectiveness, and the overall level of its individual and group counseling, but just one out of five stars for its holistic offerings.

On Facebook, which the facility may be able to manage, the center earned five out of five stars from 43 reviews at the time of this writing.[1] Reviewers frequently praised the staff and the lessons they learned at Prospect House, and described the experience as life-saving or life-changing. “Saved my life.
