Editorial Review

ABOUT STEPPING STONE MANOR

Located in a large 1898 home in downtown Wilmington, N.C., Stepping Stone Manor is a 15-bed halfway house for men seeking sobriety from drugs and alcohol. Having recently celebrated its 40th year, the long-term program continues to help men through its structured curriculum of outpatient care and counseling, 12-step and house meetings, and GED test preparation.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to an article published in 2015, the six-month program at Stepping Stone begins with an assessment and interview with clinician and doctor. If men are approved into the program, they “must then agree to intensive outpatient treatment three time a week during the first three months.” Men must also refrain from working outside the home during the first 45 days of programming, enabling them to focus solely on their recovery during this time.

The daily schedule is quite structured. Men wake up to a 5:30 a.m. private meditation before hopping on a 7 a.m. bus for a “full morning of outpatient treatment.” Following afternoons spent working with their 12-step sponsor, completing house chores, and studying for the GED, men retire the day with mandatory in-house A.A. or N.A. meetings.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The 2015 article makes mention of a program director as well as a former participant who took up the role of counselor five years into sobriety.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The large, historic home has 15 bedrooms and a meeting space.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni.

On Google, where Stepping Stone has five five-star ratings, reviewers highlighted the program’s great staff and individualized attention. “Wilmington deserves to be proud of this service,” wrote Audrey.[1]

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

An anonymous family member told Rehabs.com that their loved one was “Released too early” but added no further details.

FINANCING

There is currently no information provided on the program’s treatment costs.

[1] https://goo.gl/soLimn
