<p><strong>ABOUT NEW HANOVER TREATMENT CENTER - Wilmington, NC</strong></p> <p>New Hanover Treatment Center is a <strong>nation-wide opioid treatment facility</strong> offering <strong>medically supervised detoxification and outpatient</strong> treatment for adults. The Wilmington, N.C. facility is located approximately ten miles west of the beautiful Atlantic Ocean and North Carolina beaches. The organization has been providing specialized care for opioid drug users since 1986 and now has more than 68 treatment centers throughout 20 states.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>The facility’s treatment program believes that addiction is a chronic disease of the brain that can be treated. Individual treatment plans are designed uniquely for each participate and include <strong>medication assisted treatment</strong> combined with counseling and medical services.</p> <p>Though clients are not admitted for overnight treatment, all participants receive medically supervised withdrawal through <strong>doctor-led care teams</strong>. Participants are prescribed medication such as methadone or buprenorphine (Suboxone) to ease withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Upon admission to the program, individuals meet with the doctor for an initial assessment and need be in a state of withdrawal at that time in order for the doctor to determine the appropriate type and amount of medication needed. Clients follow up regularly with the doctor and medical care team, especially in the initial phase of treatment, for medication management and assessment of their overall condition during detox.</p> <p>Throughout treatment, clients receive <strong>individual, group, and family counseling</strong>. The goal of the counseling services is to help clients explore why they became addicted to opiates, what their triggers are, and how to develop a long-term plan for sobriety. </p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The facility employs a comprehensive treatment team including the <strong>program director, medical doctor, treatment service coordinator (TSC), counseling staff, a pharmacist, and the nursing team</strong>.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The sole alum polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave the facility <strong>three out of five stars</strong> for treatment effectiveness and three stars for accommodations &amp; amenities. She indicated that the staff was well-training and experienced (four out of five stars) and equipped to treat co-occurring mental health problems in addition to substance use disorders (also four out of five stars). When asked, on a scale from one to five, to what degree she would recommend treatment at New Hanover Treatment Center to others, she gave four stars. She gave a lesser rating to the affordability (two out of five stars) but indicated that family participation in treatment was the sole strength of the facility, giving this metric a maximum five-star rating.</p> <p>She felt that a strength of the facility was that it “Helps people stay away from illegal activity due to their addiction needs”. She felt that the facility could improve upon its staff/client ratio. “Counselors were over worked by having too many patients.” She added that treatment was worth the cost when compared to the cost of using. </p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>The sole friend or family member who rated the facility gave neutral responses. He gave the facility two out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, three stars for accommodations &amp; amenities, and three stars for meals &amp; nutrition.</p> <p>He felt that the facility could improve upon its phone and visitor policy. He added that a close friend was a client at the facility and it was difficult to get in touch.”</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>The facility <strong>accepts insurance</strong> but does not list which ones on its website. Clients are encouraged to contact the facility directly for additional insurance information and a staff member will assist in determining coverage. The facility also <strong>accepts cash, debit, or credit card payments</strong> which are expected promptly at the start of treatment. The facility does not publish its fees for services.</p>
