<p><strong>ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH’S HOSPITAL BEHAVIORAL HEALTH RESIDENTIAL SERVICES- SYRACUSE, NY</strong></p> <p>Saint Joseph's Hospital Behavioral Health Residential Services, located in Syracuse, N.Y., offers <strong>residential treatment to adults ages 18 and older struggling with psychiatric disabilities</strong>. Behavioral Health Services are offered as a part of St. Joseph’s Health, a nonprofit regional healthcare system based in Syracuse, N.Y. Saint Joseph’s was first established in 1869 as a 15-bed hospital. The health system has now grown to over 5000 employees and physicians. </p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>The facility’s treatment program takes a <strong>individualized approach</strong> to therapy. </p> <p>In order to be admitted, clients must <strong>receive a referral</strong> from a psychiatric facility, community agency, or their family using the application found on the facility’s website. Those interested in making a referral may also contact the facility directly by phone. After the referral process, potential clients are evaluated by the treatment team to assess whether they will benefit from the program. A <strong>psychiatrist is involved</strong> in the admission process to determine if the client is in need of restorative services before they are placed into the program. The average length of stay is different for each client depending on their individual needs but, typically, most patients <strong>remain in the program for one year</strong> as it is a transition program. </p> <p>There are two levels of care through residential services including a <strong>supervised community residence program and intensive supportive apartments</strong>. The goal of both levels of the program is maintain the most appropriate level of independent living possible for residents. </p> <p>The comprehensive services offered include <strong>assertiveness and self advocacy training</strong>, community integration and resource development, <strong>daily living skills</strong> training, and health services. Clients receive their prescribed medications during their stay and <strong>medication management training</strong> is provided. Clients also participate in rehabilitation counseling, are given services to develop socialization skills, and may receive <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank"><strong>treatment for substance abuse</strong></a> as needed. Clients are expected to comply with psychiatric treatment and participate in structured activities as their stay progresses. </p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The credentials of the treatment team are not provided on the facility’s website. The staff to client ratio changes based on the number of patients admitted for care and their needs. At all times, the residences are supervised <strong>24 hours per day by on-site personnel</strong>. Additional staff are also available 24 hours per day, seven days per week for emergencies via the community residence line. </p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings in the community residence or the supportive apartments. While the loved one rated the facility's treatment effectiveness, cleanliness, and affordability highly, they gave low one-star ratings for the facility's counseling options and the staff's level of training and experience. The anonymous loved one wrote that they would not recommend the facility to others.<br /> Despite several negative views of the facility, the respondent did add, “I think their effective and also do follow up visit at home.” </p> <p>On the St Joseph’s Hospital Mental Health Google page, there is an <strong>overall rating of 3.4 out of five stars based on nine total reviews</strong>.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> The reviews, however, were regarding the overall mental health services and not specifically regarding the residential services. </p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its costs.
