ABOUT COMMUINTY PROGRAMS, INC. – MEN’S RESIDENTIAL

Established in 1968, Community Programs, Inc. (CPI), has a long history of serving individuals and families in Michigan seeking support with addiction-related and mental and behavioral health problems. In fact, it is one of only 196 (41.3 percent) treatment centers where the primary focus is a mix of mental health and substance abuse.

Today, CPI helps men overcome chemical dependency and maintain sobriety as one of 13 percent of Michigan facilities to offer both short- and long-term residential care. Where needed, medical care, monitoring, and prescriptions, as well as translation services, are also provided.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

There are two options for residential treatment at CPI: short-term, lasting three to 30 days, and long-term, marked by 31 days or more. As programming adheres to the cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) model of care, men are expected to work hard at changing and replacing negative and distorted thought patterns.

Throughout their time here, men attend daily groups and educational lectures centered on a variety of recovery concepts including anger management, problem solving, lifestyle balance, employability, and more. On-site 12-step meetings also take place regularly, helping them better understand their addiction, while those with children may take classes on healthy parenting. Upon completion of residential care, men may receive referrals to outpatient treatment or other services within their local community.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Per the organization’s official webpage, treatment staff include medical professionals, licensed drug and alcohol counselors, master’s level licensed social workers, and wellness specialists.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There is currently no information provided by the organization regarding its living arrangements and related offerings. The single Rehabs.com survey respondent, a family member, left a three-star rating for the center’s meals, but only two stars for its accommodations.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

While former clients of CPI have not yet given feedback to Rehabs.com, alumni on secondary sites share quite a bit of criticism. On Google, for example, CPI received a below-average rating of 2.2 out of five stars from 16 individuals to date.[1]

Most reviewers complained about the low hygiene standards they encountered, and many alumni felt the staff were not compassionate enough. Another recurring complaint was about unfair treatment for clients who were there because of a court order vs. clients who chose the facility independently. In a representative comment, A.M. wrote, "Good only for detox or alternative to jail."

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The parent of a former client provided critical feedback in their Rehabs.com survey. Although they indicated that programming helped their son with several areas in life - career, social and family gatherings, and improvement in attitude - they nevertheless reported to Rehabs.com that they would “recommend a different facility if he needed addiction help again” because this treatment facility was court-ordered rather than chosen by the loved one. “If his recovery failed," this parent continued, "I would look at other methods of treatment.”

On Google, feedback from family and friends was similarly critical.[1] Reviewer Kathleen referred to her son’s experience here as “Terrible,” and Angie criticized the organization as a whole for having “the most awful rudest people ive ever dealt with.” In an even more furious report, Lorrie wrote, “CPI treats their patients like criminals, even animals! They do NOT let you let you have ‘any’ decision making on your own. They do NOT prepare you for the outside world."

The two users to provide reviews on CiteHealth at the time of this writing produced similar criticism.[2] One reviewer gave three stars for care, staff, and the facility, but commented, "there not responsible for anyone's actions." The other reviewer gave care, staff, and the facility all just one star, complaining of health violations, low-quality food, rude staff, and a "filthy, over crowded" facility.

WHAT STAFF SAY

Although Rehabs.com has yet to receive feedback from this facility's staff, eight Glassdoor users generated a very low 1.9-star rating. [3] Current and former employees expressed concerns with management, the employee turn-over rate, and the facility's standards for treatment and care.

FINANCING

There is currently no information provided by the organization regarding its treatment costs, though its HealthGrove page indicates that state insurance other than Medicaid and Access to Recovery (ATR) Vouchers are accepted. The single Rehabs.com survey respondent felt the facility was priced fairly.

[1] https://goo.gl/VW4xZb
[2] http://citehealth.com/rehab-centers/michigan/cities/waterford-cdp-in-oakland-county/community-programs-inc-based-at-1435-north-oakland-boulevard
[3] https://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Community-Programs-Reviews-E403480.htm
