Editorial Review

ABOUT BAPTIST HEALTH CORBIN

Located in the small city of Corbin in southeastern Kentucky, Baptist Health Corbin is a 273-bed acute and skilled care hospital. Its behavioral health division offers a broad range of services for individuals struggling with emotional disorders and addiction. Treatment for substance abuse includes detox, inpatient, and outpatient programs.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

To be admitted, clients must be at least 18 years of age and assessed to be a medical emergency with serious, potentially harmful withdrawal symptoms. Detox and short-term inpatient care include 24-hour nursing along with 12-step participation, individual and group counseling, and family education. The detox process typically takes three to five days and includes aftercare planning to participate in residential or outpatient treatment.

The detox recovery program provides medically managed and monitored detox treatment. The major aim of inpatient treatment is to prepare clients to transition to a less intensive level of care as soon as possible. These next options include a partial hospitalization program (PHP) for adolescents and an intensive outpatient program (IOP) specifically for adults struggling with substance abuse. Both the PHP and the IOP provide group therapy and a heavy emphasis on family therapy, as well as medication management as needed. The facility also offers general outpatient care for children, adolescents, and adults suffering with mental illness, substance abuse or both in treatment plans tailored to the individual client’s needs.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Baptist Health Corbin's behavioral health interdisciplinary treatment team includes staff psychiatrists, nurses, master’s level therapists, licensed clinical social workers, recreational therapists, and certified alcohol and drug counselors. Four individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the staff’s level of training and experience rated this metric an average of four out of five stars.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Clients in the detox program, which is co-ed, live in dormitory-style rooms. Participants may receive visitors and phone calls as well as smoke at designated times. The center provides games, puzzles, television, and reading materials for detox clients to use during their stay. Both detox and inpatient care take place at the Trillium Center, situated inside Baptist Health Corbin. Outpatient services are delivered at the Briscoe Clinic, located on the lower level of the Trillium Center.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The only alum polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing would recommend Baptist Health Corbin, based on their rating of four out of five stars. “It was a good experience, that helped me overcome my addictions mainly with the counselling they provided,” the anonymous reviewer wrote, giving perfect five stars for treatment effectiveness, counseling options, treatment of co-occurring disorders, family participation, and holistic offerings. However, this reviewer provided lower ratings of three stars for accommodations/amenities and meals/nutrition.

On Google, 26 reviewers to date offered mostly positive feedback, which averaged four out of five stars, for the hospital in general rather than behavioral health services. [1] Some (mix of alumni, loved ones, and staff members) praised the doctors and staff, others did the opposite. “Absolutely patient and very caring.
