Editorial Review

ABOUT SAMARITAN INNS

In what began in 1985 as a nine-bed transitional home for the homeless and addicted in Washington, D.C, Samaritan Inns is now an established group of recovery homes and programs for homeless men and women. According to its website, Samaritan Inns guides more than 500 men and women each year towards reaching substance-free, fully-employed, and independent lives.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The two-phase recovery program at Samaritan Inns begins with 28 highly structured days of residential treatment. Program participants, men and women typically between the ages of 18 to 65, receive education on the impact of addiction, learn the principles of the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, and attend counseling sessions held in both group and private settings. They’ll also follow a regimen of nutrition, exercise, and sleep to improve their physical health.

Following their 28-day residency, participants have opportunity to put into practice all that they’ve just learnt in phase two, four to six months of transitional living. The DC-certified program does carry some expectations, requiring men and women to seek out employment within 30 days of entry, develop their network of recovery resources, begin building a savings account, and attend weekly meetings with addictions counselors. Also available are opportunities for health care enrollment, GED prep, and job training.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Counseling sessions are facilitated by addictions counselors and therapists.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There is currently no information provided by the organization regarding its living arrangements and related offerings.

An anonymous Rehabs.com survey respondent, however, gave Samaritan Inns five stars for its meals and cleanliness and four stars for its accommodations.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

In the sole survey response for Rehabs.com to date, an anonymous alum gave five stars for the effectiveness of treatment and the holistic options available. The alum told of “Medical issues with clients,” without elaborating further, and shared a list of strengths that included “Individual groups,” a “well experienced staff” and “community based retreats.”

Samaritan Inns also received a handful of five-star reviews across Google and Facebook.[1][2] “Wonderful supportive staff,” wrote Adrienne. “Very resourceful and informative.”

FINANCING

According to its website, programing at Samaritan Inns is “certified by and in possession of an Access to Recover (ATR) provider agreement with the DC Department of Behavioral Health.” Medicaid is also accepted here.

[1] https://goo.gl/Smu8g9
[2] https://www.facebook.com/pg/SamaritanInnsDC/reviews/?ref=page_internal
