<p><strong>ABOUT INTERCOMMUNITY ADDICTION SERVICES</strong></p> <p>The former Alcohol and Drug Recovery Centers, founded in 1973, joined with the Hartford, Connecticut.-based InterCommunity in 2015 to provide comprehensive treatment to adults struggling with substance use disorder. The facility offers both <strong>residential</strong> and <strong>outpatient</strong> programs, along with <strong>medically monitored detox</strong> services. InterCommunity also provides <a href="https://www.recovery.org/topics/medication-assisted-treatment/" target="_blank">medication-assisted treatment (MAT)</a> to clients who are dependent on opioids. It's <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/CT16.pdf" target="_blank">one of only 38</a> substance abuse treatment facilities in Connecticut (just three percent of all facilities in the state) to have an <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/why-are-opiate-addicts-so-hard-to-treat/" target="_blank">opioid treatment program</a>.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Treatment is based on the <strong>disease concept</strong> and follows <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/did-aa-save-my-life/" target="_blank">12-step principles</a>. Each client receives a counselor and attends <strong>individual and/or group sessions daily</strong>, as well as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings, which are conducted on-site five evenings per week.</p> <p>Residential options include intensive treatment for <strong>14 to 28 days</strong>, intermediate residential for up to <a href="https://www.recovery.org/topics/choosing-a-90-day-addiction-recovery-program/" target="_blank">90 days</a>, and a long-term recovery program (four to six months) for <strong>pregnant women</strong> or <strong>women with dependent children age four and under</strong>. InterCommunity is <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/CT16.pdf" target="_blank">one of 50</a> substance abuse treatment programs in Connecticut (about 23 percent of all facilities in the state) to provide services to pregnant and postpartum women.</p> <p>Outpatient options include an <strong>intensive outpatient program (IOP)</strong> and standard <strong>outpatient program (OP)</strong>; recovery support programs offer participants services to help <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/how-addiction-can-interfere-with-your-job-performance/" target="_blank">re-enter the workforce</a>.</p> <p>IOP and OP services practice <strong>cognitive behavioral therapies</strong> to address the patterns and effects of substance abuse. IOP is offered in both the day and evening, three times per week for three hours a day, Monday through Friday. OP provides clients with individual, group, and <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/the-pain-of-addiction-in-the-family-how-counseling-can-help/" target="_blank">family counseling</a>, as well as relapse prevention services, <a href="https://www.recovery.org/topics/extended-recovery-programs/" target="_blank">aftercare</a> and gender-specific treatment.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>According to the facility’s website, staff includes a physician for detox, <strong>registered nurses</strong>, counselors, vocational coaches, and case managers. </p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>Staff members are <strong>available 24/7</strong> at InterCommunity residential programs. Visitors are allowed at the residential rehab facilities depending on individual clients’ treatment plans and stages.</p> <p>The <strong>10-bed Coventry House</strong> is the residence and treatment program for pregnant and postpartum women, where they can stay with up to two children for four to six months. <strong>Clayton House</strong> is a treatment facility that serves <strong>15 men and women</strong> for 90 days. Residents at Clayton House must find full-time employment during the day and participate in the evening therapeutic program. </p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>Of the eight alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com to date, <strong>four gave the facility positive reviews</strong>, three gave the facility mixed reviews, and one provided negative feedback. Former clients who reported positive experiences described the groups as effective and the staff as compassionate. Mixed reviewers noted that while treatment was helpful, the facility often felt overcrowded and did not provide enough one-on-one counseling. The one negative reviewer complained about the facility's lack of aftercare, noting that clients without family support were rarely received an aftercare plan.</p> <p>InterCommunity also received mixed feedback on Google<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small>, where it earned an average rating of <strong>2.9 out of five stars</strong> based on 22 reviews. Unhappy former clients such as E.M. described the facility as uncomfortable and run-down, and also agreed that aftercare was lacking. In a representative reviews, Lysa wrote: "I've been a client of Intercommunity since 2013, &amp; I seriously don't know where I would be without their friendly, caring staff &amp; services.</p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>The sole loved one surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave InterCommunity mixed feedback. The 18-to-25-year old female described the facility as "well-organized," and awarded it four out of five stars for its administrative and discharge procedures, its affordability, and its staff's level of training and experience. However, she also gave the facility just two out of five stars for its counseling options and noted: "No real other options offered besides group counseling. It would be nice if more services could be offered while also remaining cheap for the clientel."</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>InterCommunity accepts HUSKY/Medicaid, Medicare, and private health insurance. It is among the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/CT16.pdf" target="_blank">53 percent of Connecticut facilities to accept Medicare</a>. Staff members assist clients in applying for entitlements.
