<p><strong>ABOUT HARTFORD HOSPITAL'S INSTITUTE OF LIVING (IOL)</strong></p> <p>Founded in 1822, the Institute of Living (IOL) is a mental health treatment facility located in Hartford, Conn. Now a division of Hartford Hospital, IOL offers a wide range of <strong>behavioral, psychiatric, and addiction treatment services for children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly</strong>. </p> <p>Treatment options include inpatient, residential, outpatient, intensive outpatient (<a href="https://www.recovery.org/forums/categories/iop-outpatient-alcohol-treatment" target="_blank">IOP</a>), and partial hospitalization (PHP)/day treatment programs. At Eli’s Retreat, which offers short- and long-term stays (<strong>up to six months</strong>), staff administer medications and clients have the opportunity for routine social and recreational outings. The Todd House, which is funded by grants, also offers residential treatment for mental health and substance misuse disorders on the main hospital campus.</p> <p>There are numerous outpatient and IOP programs, many of which offer <strong>specific tracks for children and adolescents, adults, and the elderly</strong> as well as for those struggling with anxiety, eating disorders, and depression. The facility also offers treatment for mood disorders in women who are pregnant or who have recently given birth and offers <strong>specialized tracks for those struggling with schizophrenia</strong>.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The center's website indicates that the treatment team includes clinicians, social workers, psychiatrists, psychologists, and nurses. IOL is among the 35.7 percent of <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/CT17.pdf" target="_blank">treatment facilities in Connecticut</a> to be accredited by the Joint Commission and among the 28.6 percent to be certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS AND AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>The facility's website indicates that programming is hosted in several buildings throughout the 35-acre, landscaped campus, which is planted with many rare and unusually large tree species. <strong>Eli’s Retreat is a 13-bed facility</strong>.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>At the time of this writing, Rehabs.com has yet to receive feedback from alumni. However, the 37 people who left reviews on Google at the time of this writing provided an <strong>average rating of 2.6 out of five stars</strong>.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> Positive reviews tended to praise the training and care provided by staff.
