The goal of the inpatient program is to effectively stabilize the individual and refer them to a less-restrictive level of care. Although the length of inpatient care varies, the detoxification phase of treatment typically lasts between three and six days.

The inpatient program for chemical dependency consists of a structured schedule of group, individual, and family therapy sessions, coping skills and stress management workshops, psychoeducation classes, and recreational therapies. Clients are also introduced to the 12-step model of recovery and attend on-site meetings daily. Chaplain services and spirituality groups are additionally available.

Treatment for psychiatric disorders includes pharmacological intervention, counseling sessions, educational classes, life skills training, and recreational therapies, such as artistic expression, musical therapy, yoga, and meditation. In some cases of severe depression, the facility may utilize electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Along with core programming, the treatment track for military personnel and veterans also addresses issues common among the population, such as PTSD, grief, depression, and loss. This specifically-tailored program is a feature of 41 (11.5 percent) Arizona treatment centers.

Upon inpatient discharge, patients may be referred to the facility’s partial hospitalization or intensive outpatient program to continue treatment. Although patients return home each night, PHP involves the same programming as inpatient, while IOP involves attending three-hour sessions, three times per week. Upon program completion, alumni are invited to attend free, one-hour aftercare groups for up to a year.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The treatment team includes physicians, psychiatrists, registered nurses, therapists, and specially-trained chemical dependency counselors. Several also left complaints about the medication and dosages provided, and expressed having insurance-related difficulties. Alum S.K. representatively commented, "They hand out meds like it is candy." On the other hand, E.N., one of the few pleased reviewers, wrote, "The counselors are amazing. The nurses are encourageing and give great advice," adding, "Yes they have strict rules."

Feedback on Yelp was similar to date, with 14 users generating a 2.5-star average.[2] Negative reactions, here, too, made note of the accommodations: "The rooms were a bit odd and the beds mushy," D.P. remarked. The other top criticism was difficult and poorly managed admissions and intake procedures.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The sole loved one surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave the Aurora Behavioral Health System in Tempe a mostly negative review. While this individual did give the facility four out of five stars for its counseling options and five stars for its affordability, the reviewer was ultimately disappointed with the treatment his father received. Low ratings of two stars were given for exercise/leisure options, holistic offerings, the facility's connectivity policies, and the facility's admissions and discharge procedures. He specifically commented on this last ratings, writing, "They let my father leave without having a ride and without ever being admitted because he could not pay up front."

This loved one felt that a facility strength was that they "offer tons of counseling," but that some of the weaknesses were that the facility was "a bit dirty, the food was terrible and the people seemed annoyed with everyone."

Family and friends on Yelp expressed similar dissatisfaction.[2] The daughter of a client commented on problems with rude customer service and payment policies that she did not agree with. The parent of another client felt similarly, and remarked, "Intake was a total joke." Comments in the "unrecommended review" section of Yelp echoed these same sentiments.[3]

WHAT STAFF SAY

The sole staffer polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, a medical employee, gave the facility a mixed review, noting that while “most of the staff is very good at what they do,” the doctors need to spend more time with the patients. “Management needs to hire more people or pay competitively to keep good people,” this individual wrote. They did, though, give four stars to the management and treatment staff's willingness to put the needs of the client first.

In response to whether or not this program is primarily based on the 12-step model, the employee selected, "No," but did give a high, four-star rating to whether or not the facility is equipped to treat co-occurring disorders.

Earning an average of three stars from 65 employees on Glassdoor, feedback on this facility was similarly mixed.[4]

FINANCING

According to the facility’s website, most major insurance plans are accepted.
