Editorial Review

ABOUT WINNEBAGO COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES - BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES DIVISION

Wisconsin's Winnebago County Department of Human Services is the state’s mental and behavioral health facility, providing substance abuse and mental health treatment through its Behavioral Health Services Division. Two walk-in clinics, located in Oshkosh and Neenah, offer outpatient-based alcohol and drug assessments, crisis intervention, prevention programming, and psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and adults. In addition, inpatient care is available through the state's Winnebago Mental Health Institute.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Individuals can begin treatment during walk-in hours or by appointment at one of the Winnebago County clinics. Court-ordered treatment requires appointments, and women who are pregnant are given priority for admission to a treatment program. Only 35 facilities in Wisconsin offer specialized services for pregnant and postpartum women.

Prevention is a major component of the facility’s operations. Prevention services are offered in the form of community-focused education programs to raise awareness of treatment options. Clients can seek assistance at the facility to help themselves or others find the preventive help that they need to avoid relapses. The facilities also offer OWI & intoxicated driver assessments, as well as Safe Street Drug Court that lasts between 12 and 18 months.

Winnebago County Department of Human Services also operates crisis help services including a 24/7 crisis hotline. If needed, clients can take advantage of the assessment and referral services available through the crisis center to find a suitable method of treatment.

Mental health services include case management, age-appropriate counseling, and ongoing medication management. Special support is also available for parents of children receiving long-term treatment for substance use or other mental health disorders.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The facility's treatment team consists of psychiatrists and nurse practitioners who provide psychiatric care, and certified counselors lead addiction treatment groups.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Although Rehabs.com has yet to receive alumni feedback to date, secondary sources revealed positive alumni opinions. On Google, Winnebago County Human Services received an average rating of four out of five stars from 23 reviews.[1] Although written feedback is limited, alumni described the staff members as “Very positive, polite and respectful to your privacy!” and as “Always willing to help.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

At the time of this writing, the single family member polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided generally positive opinions. The anonymous loved one gave five out of five star ratings for the effectiveness of treatment and availability of counseling options to fit the client's preferences.

However, opportunities for family participation and holistic therapy received just three stars. Data also indicated strong satisfaction with the facility's capability to treat co-occurring behavioral health disorders and with the staff's level of training and experience.

WHAT STAFF SAY

Rehabs.com survey responses from a sole staff member reflected respect for fellow treatment staff, their credentials, and their commitment to responding to patient interests. The employee identified a lack of sufficient funding as a department weakness. The staff member gave five out of five stars for its connectivity, facility cleanliness and maintenance, and admission and discharge procedures. However, they gave just three out of five stars for its holistic offerings and only one star for affordability.

FINANCING

Medical and some private insurance plans are accepted, and treatment is available to individuals without insurance. The only fee listed is $250 for an intoxicated driver assessment. The loved one polled rated affordability just one out of five stars.

CONCLUSION

Winnebago County Department of Human Services promotes solutions to common community issues on its social media channels. Its current efforts focus on promoting programs to help children and their parents. It also advertises the availability of mental health services that are available to the community.

[1] GoogleReviews
