Editorial Review

ABOUT WOMEN’S RECOVERY JOURNEY

One of 35 programs run by Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin, a nonprofit human services agency in operation since 1899, Women’s Recovery Journey is an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for women and their families who are affected by substance use disorder and/or co-occurring mental health disorders. Located two blocks from the Fox River in central Green Bay, the center is among the 42.9 percent of rehabs in Wisconsin that operate as private nonprofits. Services are available only to women who live in Brown County.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Potential clients must over the age of 18, resident in Brown County, and in need of treatment for alcohol or drug misuse. Pregnant women receive priority treatment. Treatment begins with an assessment of the client's mental health and addiction status, as well as the resources they can draw from during treatment.

The goal of the IOP is “to help women recover from their addiction and become better able to care for themselves and their families.” As such, the program is tailored to treat the specific needs of women in recovery — in particular, the center notes the large proportion of women in addiction who have suffered physical and/or sexual abuse. The bulk of programming is provided through group therapy, conducted three times a week. Families are also invited to attend therapy, educational groups, and multi-family support meetings.

As clients progress through treatment, they gradually taper their attendance, to twice a week, then once a week. This tapered level serves as the program's aftercare.

The program coordinates with other community agencies to provide wraparound care. Women's Recovery Journey is also among just 4.8 percent of rehabs in Wisconsin that provide child care for clients' children during programming.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Treatment is facilitated by a master's-level social worker and a licensed professional counselor, both of whom are also substance abuse counselors.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

In the single survey response submitted to Rehabs.com to date, an anonymous alum awarded the program a perfect five-star rating for its treatment effectiveness.

Secondary sites don not currently offer any reviews of Women's Recovery Journey specifically, but do provide mostly positive feedback on Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin as a whole, which has average ratings of 4.2 stars based on 28 reviews on Google and also 4.2 out of five stars, based on nine opinions, on Facebook (where the facility can manage its own page).[1] [2]

The reviewers repeatedly praised the variety of programs offered at Family Services and its policy of charging on a sliding scale, as well as describing the network's services as helpful. "The staff is so helpful and friendly," Mary wrote in one representative comment on Google. "Family counseling. Group and inividual therapy. Various staff specializing in certain techniques.
