Each individual in treatment has a primary diagnosis of chemical dependency or substance abuse, though the treatment center does have the ability to treat co-occurring mental health disorders. A full range of treatment options addresses physical, social, and spiritual recovery.

Most clients begin with an intensive 30-day inpatient program. During treatment, men attend four groups a day of education and therapy. The groups address addiction and the disease concept, basic recovery concepts, coping skills, relapse prevention tools, and corrective thinking skills. Residents also participate in at least one individual counseling session a week.

The average resident remains at Mooring House for eight months and some stay for as long as 18 months. Following intensive rehabilitation treatment, clients have access to continued treatment during transitional living and aftercare. In Wisconsin, Mooring House is among the 14.3 percent of non-hospital facilities to provide long-term residential care.

Throughout treatment, residents work with therapists and peers to develop self-control, dignity, and understanding of their disease. The program helps clients to recognize the value of and options for healthy and fun choices in sober living, develop independent living skills, connect with a support system, and address related issues through therapy and education. Residents may work on anger management, family relationships, communication, and relapse prevention techniques.

Longer-term treatment and transitional housing at the facility require residents to find employment or volunteer work and participate in weekly counseling, as well as attend at least one group session per day. Residents are encouraged to also attend 12-step groups, such as Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous, which are held at the facility. One loved one, S.F., gave four stars for the level of family participation, but only two stars for counseling options and overall treatment effectiveness. "It was not a strong enough program for my husband. My husband came home and the next day went and got drunk. I do not think it was a long enough program for him as it is a 30 day program," she wrote.

The other two surveyed loved ones shared more positive experiences. Despite feeling concerned with the center's admissions and discharge procedures and giving only two stars for holistic offerings, one individual strongly agreed she would recommend the center to others. "Those in treatment were able to get jobs (and were checked for alcohol etc) when coming back on the premisis,"the loved one wrote. Loved one J.H. cited "Location and number of beds" as facility strengths, and awarded treatment of co-occurring disorders, exercise activities, family participation, and affordability all four-star ratings.

WHAT STAFF SAY

T.W., the single staff member polled by Rehabs.com, shared a similar concern. “Not enough structure,” they wrote. Lukewarm ratings of two or three stars were provided for a variety of metrics, including staff's level of loyalty and the quality of the experience for clients

FINANCING

According to the facility’s website, the cost of treatment ranges from $35 to $135 per day.
