ABOUT RECOVERY POINT OF HUNTINGTON

Previously known as The Healing Place, Recovery Point of Huntington offers free long-term residential addiction treatment to men. The West Virginia rehab center opened in 2011, modeled after The Healing Place of Louisville, emphasizes 12-step concepts and peer leadership. Non-medical detox services are available on-site. Recovery Point also operates a women's transitional house in Huntington.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Typically, admission involves a waiting list, though clients may speed up their admission by calling and attending meetings. Detox, if necessary, lasts three to seven days, during which clients are monitored by staff trained in CPR and first aid. Clients attend in-house meetings and classes and are screened for their eligibility to join the residential program. Potential clients are oriented to the facility and introduced to 12-step principles.

Clients enrolled "off the street" attend daily classes, participate in 12-step meetings, and receive education in addiction. New clients are assigned "72-hour buddies", the first of a series of peer mentors who model appropriate social and life skills for clients.

The two phases of treatment rely heavily on 12-Step and peer mentoring in conjunction with a 28-lesson curriculum. Clients participate in a therapeutic community, prioritizing group decision-making and accountability. Clients attend classes and meetings initially focused on behavioral changes. The program also uses work therapy, asking clients to perform work in exchange for room and board. Drug testing is also required of clients.

After completing the main rehab program, clients can continue on as paid peer mentors or move to transitional housing, at which time they must maintain an outside job, pay rent for boarding, and attend five 12-step meetings per week. At step 10 of the program, additional support services are available through aftercare, including ones for education, housing, employment, and legal concerns.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to Recovery Point's website, peer mentors who have completed the Recovery Point program serve as the main treatment staff. Each peer mentor facilitates meetings and receives a caseload of eight to 10 clients at one time.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The Huntington facility accommodates up to 100 men at a time. Each client receives room and board. Visitation is limited to short periods before and after evening meetings on-site, although clients in later phases of treatment are eligible to spend weekend days off-site. Tobacco use is allowed.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Rehabs.com has not yet received any feedback from alumni of Recovery Point of Huntington.
