<p><strong>ABOUT PUYALLUP TRIBAL TREATMENT CENTER</strong></p> <p>Puyallup Tribal Treatment Center (PTTC) is operated by Puyallup Tribal Health Authority (PTHA), a nonprofit chartered by the Puyallup Tribe that provides a variety of general health and dental services. PTTC offers <strong>outpatient treatment for adults and youth</strong> who are struggling with addiction to drugs and alcohol. Services at this facility, located in Tacoma, Wash., are <strong>available to members of federally recognized tribes living in Pierce County</strong>. New clients must present a negative TB test within the previous six months.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>PTTC offers <strong>alcohol and drug abuse treatment as well as recovery services</strong> to members of the PTHA service population. In addition, the center hosts an <strong>annual alumni picnic</strong> to allow graduates to gather and celebrate their sobriety and changed lives.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>Within the state of Washington, PTTC is among 7.1 percent of substance abuse treatment centers that are <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/WA16.pdf" target="_blank">operated by tribal government</a>. PTHA is accredited nationally by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and COLA (formerly Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation). They both awarded the same top five stars to a number of other metrics: affordability, connectivity/visitor policy, facility cleanliness and upkeep, family participation, likelihood to recommend, and staff experience and training; and five stars and four stars for counseling options. </p> <p>However, although one former client continued the five-star pattern for holistic offerings, the other assigned it a lower two out of five stars. “One on ones and class room environment… Great mental health counseling as well,” one reviewer wrote, while the other praised the center’s honesty. However, they also expressed desires for better activities, more involvement from elders, and longer-term treatment.</p> <p>Secondary sites to date yielded <strong>mixed opinions</strong> of PTHA as a whole rather than drug and alcohol PTTC services specifically: 4.7 out of five stars based on 12 reviews on Facebook, which the organization can manage; 3.9 stars based on 26 reviews on Google; and 1.5 stars based on seven reviews on Yelp. <small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> <small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-2"><sup>[2]</sup></a></small> <small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-3"><sup>[3]</sup></a></small> </p> <p>Positive reviewers (alumni, staff, unidentified) <strong>praised the full range of services provided</strong>, excellent care, professionalism, and customer service whereas those on the negative end criticized long waits, inefficiencies, and rude staff. This dichotomy is reflected in comments, such as that from Chris. “Always so kind and helpful, I felt so comfortable and it was such a pleasant experience,” though Roger wrote: “I've had nothing but bad customer service from the front desk to the head nurse to the pharmacy.” </p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>According to its website, “PTHA direct services are provided without charge to all eligible AI/ANs residing in Pierce County.” It also notes that those registering for services should bring their current insurance information, if any, including Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance.
