ABOUT THE PAVILION AT NORTHWEST TEXAS HEALTHCARE SYSTEM

Located near the Amarillo Botanical Gardens toward the southwest of the city, the Pavilion at Northwest Texas Healthcare System provides inpatient and outpatient services for adults, adolescents, and children struggling with a variety of mental health disorders. Among the center's services is a chemical dependency program that provides detox, inpatient, and outpatient care for adults struggling with addiction β€” one of 46 hospital-based inpatient programs in the state of Texas.

The Pavilion also has a Uniformed Service Unit (USU) for active military personnel and veterans, law enforcement officials, firefighters, and others involved in a dangerous line of work. And its parent company, Northwest Texas Healthcare System, runs a 495-bed, acute care facility in Amarillo.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The Pavilion's chemical dependency treatment offering is a structured 28-day recovery program, which uses the Recovery Dynamics model of treatment. Recovery Dynamics combines 12-step programming (which is used at 78.1 percent of facilities in Texas) with a focus on behavioral change and a goal to achieve substantial changes in a limited timeframe.

In the inpatient program, each client follows an individualized treatment plan developed by their multidisciplinary team. Clients participate in therapeutic and educational groups to develop essential coping skills. The full 28-day program is designed to rid both the mind and the body of addiction. Clients with co-occurring mental health concerns may receive ongoing medication management.

The facility also offers outpatient treatment, as either a step-down from inpatient care or entry-level treatment. Options consist of a partial hospitalization program (PHP) and an intensive outpatient program (IOP). The IOP meets Monday through Thursday evenings and requires clients to be substance-free for at least 72 hours prior to admission. Participants in PHP and IOP are introduces to the 12-Step recovery model and other modalities in a group format, including addiction education.

Following completion of the inpatient program, PHP, or IOP, clients are encouraged to attend weekly aftercare meetings at the facility. Further referrals to aftercare are provided as needed.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The Pavilion's treatment team includes psychiatrists, clinical social workers, master’s-level counselors, certified recreational therapists, and nurses.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings. However, both of the individuals surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave the center a perfect five-star rating for its accommodations, with one reviewer additionally praising the Pavilion's β€œclean peac(e)ful environment.”

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Rehabs.com hasn't yet surveyed any Pavilion alumni, but secondary sites do hold some feedback, and much of it is negative. To date, the Pavilion has average ratings of 2.3 out of five stars based on 22 reviews on Google and 1.6 stars based on five reviews on CiteHealth.[1] [2] The reviewers repeatedly complained about a lack of proper treatment, an over-reliance on medication, rude and unhelpful staff, and even leaving treatment feeling worse than they did when they arrived.

"Just like everyone said, they just put you on all sorts of medication. No real treatment done to try and handle your situation with minimal medication," alum Al wrote in a typical comment on Google. However, a small handful of reviewers wrote that treatment at the Pavilion had been helpful for them.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The two loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date gave mixed feedback, though both reviewers agreed that the center's treatment was effective, giving the facility four- and five-star ratings in this category. While one loved one found the facility friendly and peaceful, the other appreciated the facility's administrative side, particularly its admissions and visiting hours, but cited "everything else" as a weakness.

FINANCING

The facility doesn't currently provide any information about its costs or insurance status, but 62.9 percent of treatment facilities in Texas accept private health insurance plans.

[1] GoogleReviews
[2] https://citehealth.com/rehab-centers/texas/cities/amarillo/northwest-texas-healthcare-system
