<p><strong>ABOUT RESTORATION COUNSELING SERVICES</strong></p> <p>Located in the community of Athens, Tenn., 58 miles northeast of Chattanooga, Restoration Counseling Services provides a range of <strong>outpatient-based counseling services for adults, adolescents, and children</strong>. While the faith-based facility offers counseling to address a range of concerns, Restoration Counseling Services is also one of <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/TN17.pdf" target="_blank">122 (56.2 percent)</a> facilities in that state to offer programming specifically for individuals struggling with chemical dependency and <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring mental health difficulties.</a></p> <p>The facility is also one of Tennessee's only <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/TN17.pdf" target="_blank">116 (53.5 percent)</a> <strong>intensive outpatient programs (IOP)</strong> for adults and one of the only <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/the-pain-of-addiction-in-the-family-how-counseling-can-help" target="_blank">48 (22.1 percent)</a> centers in the state with programming tailored specifically to <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/is-my-child-just-experimenting/" target="_blank">adolescents.</a> <a href="https://www.recovery.org/topics/extended-recovery-programs/" target="_blank">Aftercare planning</a> is also an aspect of treatment at the facility. </p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Before beginning counseling, clients undergo an initial assessment that addresses their concerns, such as a <strong>substance abuse history assessment and/or psychiatric evaluation</strong>. Through the initial assessment, clinicians can coordinate with the client to create an appropriate curriculum, which may include <strong>topic-relevant group counseling</strong> sessions or admission into its intensive outpatient program.</p> <p>Restoration Counseling Services provides a range of counseling settings, including <strong>one-on-one therapy</strong>, group counseling, specialized couples counseling (premarital, marriage), and <strong><a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/the-pain-of-addiction-in-the-family-how-counseling-can-help" target="_blank">family counseling sessions</a></strong>. The goal of counseling sessions is to address any <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/why-healing-underlying-core-issues-is-key-to-addiction-recovery/" target="_blank">underlying thought patterns</a> that may contribute to addictive and/or destructive behavior.</p> <p>In addition, the facility holds <strong>skills training workshops</strong> to help clients improve coping skills, regulate emotions, and enhance basic living skills. The facility may also recommend clients attend <a href="http://www.celebraterecovery.com/" target="_blank">Celebrate Recovery</a> meetings, <strong>a Biblical-based 12-step fellowship</strong>. Each service of the facility may be incorporated into its IOP.</p> <p>If applicable, clients may also meet with a consulting psychiatrist to receive ongoing <strong>medication management and monitoring</strong>. Along with counseling sessions that address issues relevant to substance abuse and mental health concerns, Restoration Counseling Services also treats individuals struggling with <strong>anger management and victims of domestic violence</strong>.</p> <p>Once a client completes a recommended program curriculum, Restoration Counseling Services coordinates with clients to form a <strong>comprehensive aftercare plan</strong>. Clinicians may provide referrals to supportive housing, vocational training opportunities, and other <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/self-help-in-recovery-if-it-sounds-too-good-to-be-true-it-is/" target="_blank">community-based support resources</a>. If applicable, the facility also provides <strong>on-site drug testing</strong> to ensure accountability.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>Restoration Counseling Services employs a team of licensed clinical social workers, mental health counselors, and a consulting psychiatrists. The sole alum polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, S.C.W., gave the facility a perfect five out of five-star rating for the treatment staff's level of experience and training.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>While the sole alum polled by Rehabs.com approved of the facility's treatment staff, they did suggest that some staff members could use more experience. "Need more experience people," S.C.W. wrote. This former client was also critical of other areas of the facility, offering two-star ratings for the facility's counseling options and its ability to treat co-occurring difficulties. A higher, four-star rating was awarded for holistic offerings.</p> <p>Secondary sources revealed generally <strong>mixed alumni opinions</strong> of the facility. Four Google reviewers to date provided a three out of five-star average rating.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> Two of these reviewers awarded the center five out of five stars, with no written commentary. The other two alumni both gave one-star ratings, and commented upon long wait times and rude customer service.</p> <p>On its Facebook page, which Restoration can manage, 17 reviewers gave the facility an average rating of four out of five stars<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-2"><sup>[2]</sup></a></small>. Positive reviews tended to <strong>praise the facility's staff and its approach to treatment</strong>. "I love this place! They actually care and listen," M.L., a representative reviewer, wrote. "I thought I knew every coping skill there was and I was taught a better way." The one reviewer to leave negative commentary noted that they were turned away from their appointment for not having proper identification.</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>According to the facility's website, Restoration Counseling Services accepts all major insurance carriers, as well as TennCare, Cover Tennessee, and CoverKids.
