<p><strong>ABOUT LANCASTER GENERAL HEALTH</strong></p> <p>Lancaster General Hospital, a community-based nonprofit center in Lancaster, Penn., features a <strong>36-bed mental health inpatient treatment unit</strong> for adults struggling with psychiatric disorders and <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring disorders</a>.The facility also offers <strong>outpatient (OP) counseling services</strong>, psychiatric medication management, and <a href="http://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/transcranial-magnetic-stimulation/home/ovc-20163795" target="_blank">transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy</a>.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>There is no specific substance abuse treatment program at Lancaster General Health, though may treat individuals with a dual diagnosis. In Pennsylvania, roughly <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/PA17.pdf" target="_blank">50 percent of treatment facilities</a> offer specialized co-occurring treatment. According to its website, the Behavioral Health team helps adults with mental and emotional health issues “regain wellness, coping skills, and functioning.” The facility takes <strong>court-ordered clients</strong>, as well as those who are voluntarily admitted. </p> <p>Typically designed for <strong>two to three weeks</strong>, inpatient care consists of <strong>individual and group counseling,</strong> family therapy, as well as social service evaluation and referrals. <strong>Medications are prescribed as needed</strong> on an individual basis. </p> <p>In addition to traditional modalities, patients may also participate in <strong>pet therapy and creative therapies</strong>. Upon inpatient discharge, patients may be encouraged to follow-up with outpatient counseling sessions. <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/extended-recovery-programs/" target="_blank">Aftercare planning</a> for rehab and other needed services are provided as well.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>According to the facility’s website, Lancaster General Hospital's Behavioral Health Unit employs a “team of physicians, counselors, therapists, nurses and other healthcare professionals.” </p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>In addition to 36 beds in Behavioral Health, the facility has a <strong>five-bed behavioral health evaluation unit</strong> in the Emergency Department. There currently is no other information provided online by the hospital regarding its living arrangements and related offerings.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The two alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date had positive impressions of the facility. Both assigned ratings of mainly four out of five stars to the major categories of the survey: treatment effectiveness, accommodations and amenities, and meals and nutrition. In addition, they awarded mostly four and three stars to other metrics, including facility cleanliness and upkeep, family participation, holistic offerings, and staff support. </p> <p>However, one former patient framed their treatment as “very helpful,” appreciated the caring staff, and wrote: “It was just amazing. I recommend it.” The other anonymous alum, although commenting about the “pleasant atmosphere,” felt excluded from the “decision and admission process” and that payment and financing options were not adequately explained. </p> <p>On secondary sites to date, Lancaster General Health as a whole received <strong>positive and mixed coverage</strong>: 3.5 out of five stars based on 16 reviews on Yelp; 4.1 stars based on 860 reviews on Facebook, which the organization can manage; and 2.9 stars based on 106 Google reviews. <small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> <small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-2"><sup>[2]</sup></a></small> <small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-3"><sup>[3]</sup></a></small> Many reviewers (alumni, loved ones, staff) commented about the Emergency Room (ER) service, which quite a few praised and others criticized – fast and efficient versus unprofessional and disorganized. Some considered the facility’s doctors and nurses excellent and the medical care they rendered good and compassionate versus others who commented about rudeness and incompetence. </p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>The two loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date submitted favorable feedback about Lancaster General Hospital. Both were impressed with the professional nature of the program and would recommend the facility. L.K.G. wrote: "The professional staff executed their duties in an exemplary manner. They also provided very detailed and informative discharge instructions. Very helpful! We feel that this facility is superior." </p> <p>The other loved one assigned top five-star ratings to numerous metrics, including addiction treatment, counseling options, facility cleanliness, family involvement and programs, holistic offerings, and staff support. “One of the things I liked about the experience is it was kept personal and confidential,” the loved one wrote.</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>Per the hospital’s webpage, Lancaster General Hospital accepts extensive list of private health insurance plans, as well as Medicare and Medicaid.
