ABOUT ADDICTIONS RECOVERY CENTER

Situated between the Cascades and the Siskiyou Mountains, the small city of Medford, Ore. is home to Addictions Recovery Center (ARC). Originally founded in the 1970s as an alcohol rehab center for men, ARC now serves both men and women seeking recovery from substance abuse and co-occurring disorders at several facilities. ARC offers residential care, a partial hospitalization program (PHP, an intensive outpatient program (IOP), aftercare, and a separate clinic for medically-monitored detox, plus transitional living facilities. Within the state, ARC is among 55.3 percent of private, nonprofit substance abuse treatment centers.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Clients in need of medically-monitored detoxification and stabilization may apply to be admitted to ARC’s Rogue Valley Fresh Start Detox. Eligibility is contingent on an initial screening, which includes a substance abuse and medical and psychological history as well as family, interpersonal, employment and legal status checks.

During treatment, clients have access to a medical professional, who provides on-site monitoring and is available by phone 24/7. They also engage in one-on-one and group counseling and receive case management services. Upon successful completion, clients may transition to a residential or outpatient program under the auspices of ARC or another provider.

ARC’s residential treatment approach draws on the 12-Steps and uses The Matrix Model, a comprehensive, evidence-based program that incorporates various types of therapy, education, and social support. The duration of residential treatment varies. One alum surveyed by Rehabs.com to date reported remaining in residential care for 30 to 60 days. Within the state, this information would place ARC as one of 33 treatment facilities that offers 30 or more days of residential, non-hospital care.

Clients can expect to participate in individual, family, and group counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) sessions, as well as gender-specific process groups, which allow participants to explore their relationship with drugs and alcohol as it relates to their gender. Clients also receive life-skills training, which encourages them to consider the consequences of their actions. Relapse prevention training is available for both clients and their loved ones.

Outpatient clients may choose between a 20-hour per week partial hospitalization program (PHP); an intensive outpatient (IOP) track that provides nine or more hours of programming per week; or standard outpatient care, with a varying duration according to each client’s needs.

Other offerings include a pet therapy program, Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) classes, treatment for gambling addiction, and a domestic abuse program. Within Oregon, ARC is among 63.7 percent of substance abuse treatment centers with an IOP and one of 34 that offers day treatment, or a PHP.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

ARC employs numerous counselors, medical technicians, and licensed practical nurses. Doctoral-level professionals serve as chief medical officer and clinical and behavioral health services director.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

ARC offers a range of transitional housing options for male and female clients in the early stages of recovery. Photos on its website depicted a one-level house with a verdant front yard, shrubbery, and an outdoor playground, as well as comfortable furnishings. Clients are allowed to bring their pets (dogs and cats) to stay with them during residential recovery, which is subject to rules and restrictions.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of this writing, the one former client polled by Rehabs.com submitted favorable feedback about ARC.
