ABOUT WILLAMETTE FAMILY, INC. – MEN’S RESIDENTIAL

Founded more than 50 years ago, Willamette Family now operates eight facilities that treat men and women struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders in Oregon. This residential treatment center for men, also known as Carlton House, is located in Eugene. Medical detox and outpatient services are provided at other facilities in the Willamette Family network.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment at Willamette Family’s locations is holistic, highly structured, and strengths-based. All treatment programs are individualized, and the length of stay depends on each client’s needs.

The men’s residential program uses individual and group therapy along with evidence-based modalities, such as motivational interviewing (MI) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). The center also encourages peer-to-peer support, and operates a bell system whereby any resident can call a meeting whenever he wishes. Motivational incentives are utilized to encourage sobriety.

Carleton House also offers access to primary care and mental health treatment, as necessary. Coping skills training is available here, as well as smoking cessation courses and classes in anger management, relapse prevention, and parenting.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the facility’s website, the men’s residential center has three full-time employees and one part-time staff member, in addition to parenting coaches, mental health therapists, and peer support staff.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The men’s center sleeps up to 27 men in rooms for three. Children may not stay with their fathers, but can visit on family day. Photos published on the facility’s website show common areas with TVs. Clients are supervised 24/7.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of this writing, four alumni have provided feedback about the men’s program at Williamette Family Inc. The feedback was mostly positive.

For treatment effectiveness, three alumni gave the facility five out of five stars, while one alum gave only two out of five stars. All of the alumni gave lower ratings for accommodations and amenities. An anonymous alum wrote: “Effective treatment, but substandard facilities.”

For the remaining metrics, the four alumni provided low average ratings of just 1.75 out of five stars for both exercise and leisure provisions and holistic treatment offerings, two stars for the available counseling options and the staff's level of training and experience, and three stars for the level of family participation in treatment.

WHAT STAFF SAY

At the time of this writing, one staff member has provided feedback about the men’s residential program of Williamette Family, Inc. The feedback was mixed.

The staff member indicated that the fact that they are “not professional,” the staff members care about their clients. The anonymous staff member added: “They try to do all of in their power to help.”

FINANCING

There is currently no information provided on the facility's website regarding its costs. However, most individual polled by Rehabs.com agreed when asked if the treatment plan was affordable and/or payment plans, scholarships, or financial assistance were made available.
