ABOUT HILLCREST MEDICAL CENTER - BEHAVIORAL SERVICES

Located on the 3rd floor of the Hillcrest Medical Center, a 691-bed hospital in Tulsa, Okla., is a 14-bed acute care unit for adults who require immediate crisis stabilization due to a disorder of mental health, substance abuse, or co-occurring nature. The hospital is also one of only nine (4.7 percent) inpatient facilities in the state that offer medical detoxification services.

Hillcrest Medical Center runs four specialized units for youth between the ages of four and 18 years of age on the eighth floor of the nearby OSU Medical Center campus. The facility is among the 29 percent in the state of Oklahoma that offers adolescent services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Inpatient treatment at this 14-bed unit is designed to stabilize adults experiencing a crisis. The various reasons for admission may include hypomanic or manic behavior, excessive aggression, confusion and disorientation, and hallucinations. Stays typically do not exceed beyond three to seven days, in which time adults receive 24-hour supervision and medication management, and partake in expressive therapy and individual, group, and family counseling.

Programming for youth is divided by age into four separate units: Children; Early Adolescent; Adolescent Acute; and Adolescent Residential. Unique by all standards, the Children’s unit accepts children as young as four years old, while the Early Adolescent unit befits those aged nine to 13. Stays are a bit longer here - ranging widely from one to six weeks - giving children and teens enough time to begin developing coping skills and the confidence needed to succeed in school and in their relationships. Youth may also continue their schooling with Tulsa Public Schools’ on-site therapeutic educational program.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Treatment staff of the behavioral health units consist of psychiatrists, licensed therapists, registered nurses, case managers, therapeutic recreation specialists, and psychiatric technicians. The medical directors of the adult and youth units have been leading their respective programs for more than 15 and 20 years.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There is currently no information provided by the hospital regarding the living arrangements of its behavioral health units for adults and youth.

The pair of Rehabs.com survey respondents to date gave the center two and three stars for both its accommodations and exercise and leisure opportunities.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The two loved ones to have completed Rehabs.com surveys as of this writing approved of some areas of treatment. One gave an overall rating of four stars and high marks for the center’s holistic opportunities and staff support, while the second reviewer called treatment at the center “fair” but claimed that their daughter did not truly want the help that she needed.

On Google, Hillcrest Medical Center has a hospital-wide mediocre average rating of 2.4 out of five stars based on 139 reviewers, many of whom presented conflicting feedback. Same day surgery client L.G. found the hospital’s staff “friendly, positive, helpful and reassuring,” though another anonymously told Google: “This place is a joke. I still can’t believe how unprofessional some of the staff were!”[1]

FINANCING

There is currently no information provided by the hospital regarding its treatment costs.

[1] GoogleReviews
