ABOUT FAMILY AND CHILDREN'S SERVICES - WOMEN IN RECOVERY

Founded in 1921, Family and Children's Services runs a range of programs to support the wellbeing and behavioral health of adults, children, and families. Alongside a range of counseling services, the center offers Women in Recovery (WIR), an intensive outpatient program (IOP) that serves as an alternative to incarceration for women facing long prison sentences for non-violent, drug-related offenses.

The facility is one of the 50.8 percent of rehab programs in Oklahoma that operate on a private, nonprofit basis, and one of the 44 percent that serve criminal justice clients.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The program is designed to help clients heal from both their addiction and any trauma they've experienced, as well as to give them the tools to re-enter society as functional family members and jobholders.

Women on the program receive addiction and mental health counseling along with addiction education. And since the program aims to go beyond simply healing the addiction, Women in Recovery also provides career training (available at 33 percent of Oklahoma-based rehabs) and job placements, as well as extensive life-skills programming in areas such as parenting, nutrition, exercise, anger management, and recreation.

Women in Recovery offers workshops and counseling for children affected by their mother's addiction. In addition, WIR works closely with the criminal justice system to ensure clients are properly supervised and compliant with program requirements.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its treatment staff; however, the single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave WIR four out of five stars for the level of staff support it provides, two stars for the training level of its individual counselors, and five stars for the quality of lead counselors for group therapy.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

According to a 2015 article in Tulsa World, WIR moved into a newly renovated facility in 2015, located above Family and Children's Services' CrisisCare Center. In addition to space for offices and groups, the 22,000-square-foot facility now has a large teaching kitchen, two dedicated children’s rooms, and classrooms and study areas for women preparing to take their GED or other education equivalency exams. The single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the center five stars for its cleanliness and exercise offerings, and three stars for its leisure offerings.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The single former client surveyed by Rehabs.com to date would recommend Women in Recovery. "2yr aftercare every saturday of the month mandatory but can return anytime need/want for life," the anonymous reviewer wrote, giving the facility five stars for the overall quality of its group counseling, four stars for the overall quality of its individual counseling, and three stars for its holistic offerings. They noted that they remained in the program for more than 90 days, and left with the proper tools to maintain continued sobriety.

WHAT FAMILY & FRIENDS SAY

Rehabs.com hasn't yet polled any loved ones of WIR alumni, but friends of the facility have posted stellar reviews on secondary sites, with a 4.6 out of five-star average rating based on eight reviews on Google.[1] "As a business owner in Tulsa I've had the pleasure of employing these women and what a wonderful experience it has been for me. Their lives have changed dramatically because of the direct support and training they have received from Women In Recovery," Billy wrote in a typically glowing comment.

FINANCING

WIR accepts insurance, including Medicaid and Medicare (accepted at 71.7 and 25.7 percent of Oklahoma-based facilities, respectively). A sliding fee scale is available for qualifying clients, and no client is turned away because they're unable to pay for services. The single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date indicated that her treatment was worth the cost.

CONCLUSION

In 2017, WIR began participating in a “pay for success” funding model. Although Women in Recovery is supported by $1.8 million in annual donations from George Kaiser Family Foundation, the facility draws additional state funds when women are successfully diverted from incarceration to incentive positive outcomes.

[1] GoogleReviews
