ABOUT OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY WEXNER MEDICAL CENTER - TALBOT ADDICTION MEDICINE

Since 1974, Talbot Addiction Medicine at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center has offered adult men and women comprehensive care for substance use disorder. Located at the University's Hospital East campus in downtown Columbus, the facility is one of four state government facilities to provide substance abuse rehab services. It provides outpatient, intensive outpatient (IOP), and partial hospitalization (PHP) programs, along with residential detox services and medication-assisted treatment (MAT).

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Talbot is a part of a major hospital and has a wide range of medical resources at its disposal. The treatment process uses a comprehensive assessment to determine the underlying needs of each client. Then, a team of specialists develops a treatment plan that is unique to each client.

The facility uses state-of-the-art clinical techniques with tested, evidence-based practices. Clients often start the process in the residential detox program where they begin medication-assisted therapy (MAT). Only 10.7 percent of rehab clients in Ohio go through MAT therapy each year. This therapy helps clients focus on recovery by reducing the impact of withdrawal symptoms. Clients also begin the 12-Step program.

The facility's partial hospitalization program (PHP) provides five hours of treatment a day, while the intensive outpatient program (IOP) meets three times a week for three-hour sessions, either in the mornings or evenings. Both programs involve group therapy, individual counseling, and family programming, as well as 12-Step facilitation. Family therapy is an important component as it builds a support network for clients.

Talbot uses some of the latest technologies in treatment. These include a new app created by Ohio State staff and students. It is designed to help clients control cravings and address other common issues so that they can continue the treatment process uninterrupted. It also makes connecting with each client’s support network easier since it can reach out to them with just one button push.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The treatment team includes medical doctors, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, licensed social workers, licensed professional counselors, and licensed chemical dependency counselors. The facility is one of 101 facilities in the state that are certified by the Joint Commission, as well as the 66 percent of facilities that are accredited by the Ohio Department of Mental Health. The single loved one surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave Talbot Addiction Medicine five out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The straightforward, hospital-based detox unit has 25 beds, and the entire campus is clinical in nature. Clients can stay in shared and private rooms depending on availability and other factors. The campus is tobacco-free.
