<p><strong>ABOUT ALVIS - REENTRY SERVICES</strong></p> <p>Alvis is a <strong>nonprofit human services agency</strong> dedicated to serving individuals transitioning from the corrections system back into their community. Established more than 50 years ago, the nonprofit today runs <strong>locations throughout five different cities in Ohio</strong> from which it provides <strong>state certified drug and alcohol addiction and residential treatment</strong>.</p> <p><a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/OH17.pdf" target="_blank">One of just 146 (35.7 percent) of facilities in the state designed specifically to <strong>work with individuals involved in the criminal justice system</a> and their families</strong>, the nonprofit also began serving those with developmental disabilities in 1981.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>The <strong>residential reentry program</strong> at Avis is designed to help incarcerated individuals who transitioning from the Ohio correctional system. The transitional program serves men and women following time spent in the Ohio corrections system through a comprehensive curriculum of <strong>state-certified substance abuse treatment, educational and vocational training, and <a href="https://www.recovery.org/topics/extended-recovery-programs/" target="_blank">aftercare services</strong></a>.</p> <p>Clients focus on developing skills essential for everyday healthy and sober living. They’ll have opportunity to work on their <strong>parenting and financial skills</strong>, build up a sober support network, and take part in both individual and group therapy sessions that make use of evidence-based practices like <strong>cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)</strong> and a state-designed <a href="https://www.ed.gov/news/press-releases/fact-sheet-ed-launches-initiative-low-income-students-access-new-generation-higher-education-providers" target="_blank">Equip Program</a>.</p> <p>Clients are also expected to work, attend school as well as complete their assigned chores throughout their treatment stay. As such, Alvis also helps clients through <strong>GED classes and budgeting assistance</strong> in addition to job readiness training. Families are encouraged, when and where appropriate, to take part in services specifically designed to help “break the cycle of family trauma” and <strong>rebuild family communication and connection</strong>.</p> <p>Additional services include <strong>mentorship</strong> opportunities and a <strong>residential treatment program for women involved in human trafficking</strong>. Through CHAT (Changing Habits, Attitudes, and Thoughts), Alvis helps women through clinical care, holistic treatment, and sober housing, making it <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/OH17.pdf" target="_blank">one of just 285 (69.7 percent) of facilities that offer clients assistance in locating housing</a>.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>Alvis posts a job description for <strong>Community Reentry Specialists</strong> on its website. In the single Rehabs.com survey response to date, an alum gave four out of five stars for the staff level of support and five out of five stars for their flexibility and respect shown to clients.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>While Alvis operates several facilities throughout central Ohio, it provides few details on its living arrangements and related offerings.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>Angela, the single Rehabs.com survey respondent to date, indicated that here court-ordered treatment stay at Alvis gave her the tools “to properly manage money and live a normal life.” She gave four out of five stars for the meals and cleanliness, yet just one star for the leisure opportunities.</p> <p>On Google, where Alvis has an excellent average rating of 4.1 out of five stars from 18 individuals, reviewers described the facility as caring and friendly. “Nice facility and fairly easy to get to,” wrote Gail in one four-star review.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small></p> <p><strong>WHAT STAFF SAY</strong></p> <p>On Indeed, where Alvis has an above-average rating of 3.2 out of five stars based on 50 reviews, both former and current employees told of opportunities to learn on the job and rewarding work experiences.
