<p><strong>ABOUT SUMMA HEALTH SYSTEM - ST. THOMAS CAMPUS BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES</strong></p> <p>Just north of downtown Akron, Ohio is the Summa Health Behavioral Health Institute of the St. Thomas Campus, one of several operated by Summa Health System. The Institute provides a comprehensive range of <strong>inpatient and outpatient care options for chemical dependency and psychiatric issues</strong>.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Summa Health runs three separate inpatient units to meet the unique needs of adults and older adults: a <strong>42-bed unit for adults, a 21-bed unit for older adults, and a 12-bed detoxification unit</strong>. In addition to receiving treatment for issues of anxiety, schizophrenia, depression, pain management, and traumatic stress, inpatients, when in need, may also be recommended for <strong>electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)</strong> and psychiatric consultation.</p> <p>Of its many outpatient services, Summa Health provides <strong>medication management</strong>, ongoing private and group therapy as well as a variety of flexibly scheduled <strong>intensive outpatient programs (IOP)</strong>. Meeting three to four days a week, a few hours at a time, IOPs are offered in the areas of general psychiatry, chemical dependency, and posttraumatic stress. Other services include <strong>psychiatric evaluation and referrals</strong> and condition-specific treatments.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>Both inpatient and outpatient programs are staffed by psychologists, nurses, social workers, addictions counselors, and activity therapists.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>The Akron &amp; St. Thomas Campuses has <strong>more than 75 beds</strong> across its three separate inpatient units.</p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>An anonymous loved one, the sole Rehabs.com survey respondent as of this writing, told of a good doctor but complained: “Too much time and boring.” They also gave mostly three- and four-star ratings for areas of treatment effectiveness, family participation, counseling options available, and the staff’s level of training and experience.</p> <p>On Google, where the Summa Health St. Thomas Campus has a rating of <strong>4.0 stars out of five from 21 individuals</strong>, reviewers collectively described the staff as “polite,” “patient,” “caring” and “wonderful.” “They cured my bipolar disorder and helped with anxiety and PTSD,” wrote Michael, the sole reviewer to have shared feedback specific to the behavioral health department.</p> <p>“WAY TO GO ST THOMAS....YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL STAFF THERE,” added Valerie in a more general comment.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small></p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>According to its website, Summa Health requires that patients with HMO and PPO health insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid have their plan cards on hand.
