<p><strong>ABOUT AKRON UMADAOP</strong></p> <p>The Urban Minority Alcoholism Drug Abuse Outreach Programs (UMADAOPs) of Ohio were founded in 1980 based on state legislation intended to meet the needs of the resident <strong>African American community</strong> in the field of <strong>substance abuse education, prevention, and treatment</strong>. </p> <p>The Akron center provides <strong>outpatient addiction treatment, re-entry services</strong> for those involved in the criminal justice system, and preventative and educational programs. The facility is among the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/OH17.pdf" target="_blank">35.7 percent of Ohio facilities</a> to provide specialized programming for criminal justice clients. It also offers services for members of the <strong>Hispanic community</strong>. </p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>The center provides <strong>culturally specific, holistic, and multidisciplinary care</strong>. UMADAOPs view addiction as an illness of the whole person, including his or her physiological, psychological, social-cultural, and spiritual background.</p> <p>The facility offers <strong>intensive outpatient programs (IOPs)</strong> in the daytime and the evening, as well as general <strong>outpatient (OP) care</strong>. Programs use case management services as well as <strong>individual and group counseling</strong>. Assessments are conducted on-site, and the center also provides <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/extended-recovery-programs/" target="_blank">aftercare services</a>, though it does not specify what these are.</p> <p>The center runs <strong>youth mentoring and youth-led prevention programs</strong> designed for those ages six through 18, placing he facility among the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/OH17.pdf" target="_blank">28.9 percent of facilities</a> to provide specialized programming for adolescents. The facility also offers several support groups which, at the time of this writing, included: Sobermen United, Marijuana Support Group (Bluntly Speaking), and Heroin Anonymous. </p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>In the state of Ohio, the center is among 24.6 percent of substance abuse treatment facilities accredited by <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/OH16.pdf" target="_blank">The Joint Commission</a>. Its staff includes medical doctors and counselors. </p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>Akron UMADAOP is located in the city’s Highland Square neighborhood. According to its website, the facility provides clinical services from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday; from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday; and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday by appointment. </p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The one alum polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing submitted favorable feedback about Akron UMADAOP, as reflected in the ratings attributed to most major categories of the survey, including perfect five-star ratings for facility cleanliness and upkeep, family participation, likelihood to recommend, and staff experience and training. They also gave four stars for family participation and counseling options. However, this former client assigned a negative rating of two out of five stars for the facility’s affordability. In all, this reviewer felt they received “Decent treatment.” </p> <p>On its unofficial Facebook page, Akron UMADAOP had two reviews with no accompanying comments: four out of five stars and a three-star rating. <small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small></p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>The sole loved one who responded to the Rehabs.com survey about the facility offered very positive feedback, including four stars for treatment effectiveness. This reviewer furthermore awarded five stars to other evaluated metrics: affordability, family participation, counseling options, facility cleanliness and upkeep, likelihood to recommend, staff experience and training, and treatment of <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring disorders</a>. The loved one also gave four stars for family participation and holistic offerings, noting, “Everything was very good, no weaknesses,” and adding, “Very nice, helpful, experienced staff. Worth the cost and stay, excellent experience.” </p> <p><strong>WHAT STAFF SAY</strong></p> <p>At the time of this writing, two employees of Akron UMADAOP posted positive opinions on the secondary site Indeed.
