ABOUT RED RIVER BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SYSTEM

Located near Minnesota's border in the city of Grand Forks, Red River Behavioral Health System (RBHS) is a free-standing psychiatric hospital offering acute inpatient treatment to adults, adolescents, and seniors. The facility treats a wide range of behavioral heath conditions, including co-occurring addiction and mental health disorders. It's also one of just three hospital-based treatment facilities in North Dakota (5%) to provide medically monitored detox services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The goal of inpatient treatment at this facility is stabilization. Among several approaches utilized are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing. Patients may also receive medication management and are encouraged to participate in a 12-step recovery groups once they are released.

Programming is delivered primarily via group counseling, as well as educational sessions focused on relapse prevention and understanding the disease model of addiction. Once clients are stabilized, a comprehensive discharge plan is created for them, which may include referrals to outpatient programs or other kinds of aftercare.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The treatment team is headed by a medical director board-certified in both psychiatry and addiction medicine. Other staff members include physician assistants, psychiatrists, and psychiatric nurse practitioners, along with licensed addiction counselors, master's-level therapists, occupational and recreational therapists, and behavioral health technicians.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The hospital has 70 beds and is located about three miles from Interstate 29. The one alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date specifically mentioned that the facility's meal and nutrition plans were strengths of the program.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The one former client surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave RBHS mixed feedback. While they praised the treatment team and awarded the hospital four out of five stars for its counseling options and its staff's level of training and experience, they gave the facility lower ratings of two or three stars for its cleanliness, its exercise and leisure offerings, its administrative and discharge procedures, and its treatment of co-occurring disorders. "Their did seem to be a lot more free time than what I expected to be full of treatments," they noted.

RBHS earned an average rating of 1.5 out of five stars on Google reviews[1] from eight individuals, where the majority of former clients complained about rude staff, high costs, and a lack of individualized treatment and aftercare. "They take you and discharge you without any consideration of follow up care," Cara, a representative reviewer, wrote. "Group therapy is all they offer; no one on one."

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The one loved one surveyed by Rehabs.com to date also gave RBHS mediocre feedback and noted that they would not recommend it to friends and family. While they gave the hospital four out of five stars for its family involvement, they awarded it just two or three stars for its counseling options, its mental health and addiction treatment, its staff support, and its aftercare involvement. "Needs better leadership, holistic offerings and counseling," the loved one wrote

FINANCING

According to the facility's website, RBHS is in-network with a number of insurance providers, and also works with managed care providers and county agencies to help fund patients. The one alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility four out of five stars for its affordability,

[1] GoogleReviews
