ABOUT LINCOLN BEHAVIORAL HEALTH

Located in the Bronx and part of the NYC Health + Hospitals network, Lincoln Behavioral Health provides a full continuum of treatment programs, including short-term inpatient and outpatient programs, for adults struggling with substance abuse, a primary psychiatric disorder, or co-occurring difficulties.

The facility also offers outpatient-based programs and services for adolescents and children (ages 5 to 18), one of 214 facilities in NY to offer such a track. In addition, the hospital offers a specialized outpatient program for chemically dependent women with young children. As a hospital-based program, Lincoln may be equipped to provide medical detoxification services.

The hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission and is an LGBTQ Healthcare Equality Index Leader.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Before beginning a treatment program, patients first participate in an psychiatric and/or substance abuse assessment to determine an appropriate level of care. Patients who require stabilization may be referred to the hospital’s inpatient program. One of the state's 72 hospital-based inpatient programs, the goal of Lincoln Behavioral Health's inpatient treatment is to quickly stabilize the patient and refer them to a less-intensive level of care.

During inpatient, patients may adhere to a structured schedule of individual and group therapy sessions, as well as psychoeducation classes and skills workshops. Patients with a primary psychiatric condition or co-occurring disorders may also receive pharmacological intervention and medication management.

Lincoln provides outpatient-based treatment for patients struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders through its Recovery Center. The Recovery Center's outpatient program includes individual and group counseling sessions, educational classes, as well as one of New York State's 22 acupuncture treatment options. In addition, clinicians facilitate vocational assessments and skill building workshops, and provide referrals for vocational training opportunities within the community.

In addition to primary substance abuse treatment, the Recovery Center's women’s-only program also focuses on issues common among mothers struggling with chemical dependency. These issues may include postpartum depression, negative self-image, improving parenting skills, stress management, domestic violence, and forming healthy boundaries.

Outpatient-based mental health programming is age-specific and includes individual, group, and family counseling sessions designed to improve coping skills and regulate maladaptive thinking and behavioral patterns. Patients struggling also receive ongoing medication management, case management, and discharge planning.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Lincoln Behavioral Health employs a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, licensed clinical psychologists, psychiatric nurses, and social workers.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Lincoln's Behavior Health Unit can accommodate up to 33 patients who have 24-hour access to nursing attention and medical care. Although information is limited concerning the facility’s living arrangements and amenities, the sole alum polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave a rating of four out of five stars for the facility's cleanliness and upkeep.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The one alum polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing generally approved of Lincoln Behavioral Health, offering four-star ratings for the staff's level of training and experience, as well as the facility's counseling options, discharge planning, and ability to treat co-occurring disorders. The anonymous alum also gave a four-star rating for the amount of family participation. Although reporting issues of understaffing, the alum wrote: Great counselor," adding: "It got me sober."

While they reflect opinions of the hospital as a whole rather that the behavioral health program in particular, reviews on Google are mixed, as 368 reviewers gave an average rating of 2.8 out of five stars.[1] Common complaints involved rude or inattentive staff and long wait times.

FINANCING

NYC Health + Hospital accepts a range of insurance plans, including Aetna, Metroplus, Mulitplan, and United Healthcare, as well as Medicaid. Financial assistance is also available for patients who are financially eligible.

[1] GoogleReviews
