Services & Treatment

Editorial Review

ABOUT THE PLYMOUTH HOUSE

Lying in the shadow of Mount Washington in northern New Hampshire, The Plymouth House offers residential treatment for adult men and women. Detox services are not offered on-site — clients must not use alcohol and/or illicit drugs within 72 hours of being admitted to the facility.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Residents initially sign up for a two-week program, though they can extend their stay if necessary. The program at The Plymouth House is highly structured and deeply-rooted in the 12-Steps. Days begin with an optional 6 a.m. breakfast, followed by yoga, a morning goals group, meditation/Chapel, and a mid-morning Big Book group.

After lunch, clients participate in highly intensive group sessions and optional inventory workshops; late afternoon recreation can include hikes. Additional groups or outside AA meetings follow dinner, and the day ends at 11 p.m. with a nightly wrap up.

Family involvement is highly encouraged — nightly 10-minute phone calls and regular letter writing are allowed, and family members may visit every Saturday.

Aftercare coordinators are available to help clients set up extended treatment if necessary, and alumni meetings are held on-site twice a week.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The Plymouth House notes on it’s website that it is not a medical facility and does not employ “health care professionals, counselors, therapists, or social workers.” Rather, the staff consists of “seasoned Twelve Step practitioners” who have many years of collective experience in continuous recovery. The website notes that on average, the staff to guest ratio is 1:4.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Clients share simple, cozy, single-sex bedrooms with one or two other clients. Bathrooms are also shared, and residents are responsible for keeping their personal areas neat and clean. Meals are served in a communal dining room.

The facility is situated on six acres, which provides plenty of opportunity for recreation and outdoor activities. There are walking and jogging trails, as well as regularly scheduled group hikes.
