ABOUT LAKE REGION MENTAL HEALTH CENTER

Founded in 1966, Lake Region Mental Health Center (formerly Genesis Behavioral Health) is one of New Hampshire’s 32 private, non-profit facilities, and serves as the state-designated community mental health board for 24 municipalities in Belknap and southern Grafton County, N.H.

The organization provides outpatient care, supportive housing, and physical health care programs for children, adults, and seniors seeking treatment for mental health disorders. The organization operates two centers in Laconia (one for adults and one for children and families), and a single facility in Plymouth that serves clients of all ages.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Lake Region Mental Health Center bases its programs on evidence-based practices, primary among them are dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and illness management and recovery (IMR), which helps people with severe mental illnesses reach their treatment goals. While in treatment, clients work with case managers to coordinate their care. Clients have access to a range of medical services, including medication management, to help them improve their overall health and focus on recovery.

Child services from the facility focus on a child impact program that tries to reduce incidents involving children in the community, as well as provide mental health treatments for children. Children that need treatment have access to medical care as well as behavioral health interventions that are managed by case managers.

Adults also have access to a combination of case management, counseling, and support services. Lake Region Mental Health Center is one of the 15 facilities in the state that offers job training and assistance for clients when they are ready to leave the program.

Housing assistance is also provided to ease the transition back into the community. Lake Region Mental Health Center also offers transportation services. Each client’s case manager can arrange transportation as needed to help clients get to work or to treatments regularly.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The center's team includes psychiatrists, APRNs, and nurses. Some of the program’s components are also staffed by volunteers from the local community. The single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date on the staff's level of training and experience gave it two out of five stars.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of this writing, the single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave a mixed review. The alum gave three out of five stars for the level of family participation, but only two stars for available counseling options and the likelihood they’d recommend the facility to others. "It was good," they simply wrote.

On Google, Lake Region has a single one out of five-star review and a perfect five-star review.[1] One alum described the facility “sketchy,” while the other alum wrote about the “Wonderfully people” and “Great counseling.”

WHAT STAFF SAY

On Indeed, Lake Region, as a whole, earned an average rating of three out of five stars from 11 reviews.[2] However, both reviews for the Plymouth location provided negative, one out of five-stars reviews. However, one reviewer reflected a general culture of care, adding: "Good people who care. A meaningful job."

FINANCING

Genesis Behavioral Health accepts most of the major private insurance plans.
