ABOUT LUTHERAN FAMILY SERVICES OF NEBRASKA, INC.

Lutheran Family Services (LFS) of Nebraska is a faith-based community organization that provides a broad range of services to communities throughout Nebraska, Iowa, and Kansas. Founded in 1892, LFS now operates eight facilities across these three states. The facility in Lincoln, Neb., provides outpatient and intensive outpatient (IOP) behavioral health treatment, including for substance misuse disorder and co-occurring mental health conditions treatment.

LFS's Lincoln facility also provides intensive case management through a Refugee Support Program for immigrants and victims of human trafficking. The LFS At Ease program provides counseling services for active military personnel, veterans, and their families. According to a 2017 SAMHSA survey, 11.2 percent of rehab facilities in Nebraska offer a program specific to veterans, 7.2 percent for active duty military, and eight percent for members of military families.

Additionally, LFS provides a broad range of services specific to children and their families. These services include adoption assistance, maternal health care, foster care, and pregnancy counseling.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Lutheran Family Services provides outpatient programming for adults that incorporates therapies with education about the disease model of addiction and healthy lifestyle skills. To ensure clients comply with a substance-free lifestyle, they must participate in random drug screenings.

Treatment plans are tailored to the specific needs of each client. Individual, group, and family therapy sessions are offered each week. Clients may participate in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) psychotherapy to treat trauma.

In addition to substance misuse treatment, LFS offers medication management, anger management classes, and drug and alcohol education. The facility encourages family participation as a part of therapy.

LFS also offers specialized treatment groups focused on topics like sex offender treatment for adults, pregnancy- and parenting-related issues, and support for sexual abuse survivors. According to a 2017 SAMHSA survey, 18.4 percent of treatment facilities in Nebraska have a program specifically tailored to clients who have experienced sexual abuse. The intensive outpatient program includes a minimum of 10 hours of treatment per week for six to eight weeks.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The staff at Lutheran Family Services includes therapists, a director, clinical supervisor, and behavioral health manager.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The two anonymous alumni who responded to a Rehabs.com poll gave neutral to positive reviews of the facility. One reviewer gave three out of five-star ratings to the majority of the 15 evaluated categories but wrote that the facility could use β€œnicer people.” The other reviewer gave four- or five-star ratings to most metrics evaluated, including staff support and training, cleanliness of the facility, and accommodations and amenities. However, the reviewer gave only one star for individual counseling.

Eight alumni on Google offered similarly mixed reviews, rendering an average rating of 3.5 out of five stars.[1] On LFS’s Facebook page, which the facility has the ability to manage, 85 reviewers gave an average 4.2 out of five stars.[2] However, these reviews were not necessarily specific to behavioral health or substance misuse treatment nor the Lincoln-based facility.

WHAT STAFF SAY

Though no staff members have been surveyed by Rehabs.com to date, third-party reviews on Glassdoor gave positive reviews of aspects specifically relating to client experience.[3] In particular, employee reviewers praised their fellow staff members as well as he treatment effectiveness.
