ABOUT LARRY SIMMERING RECOVERY CENTER

The Simmering Center of Branson, Mo, roughly 40 miles south of Springfield, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to serving adult men and women in need of acute stabilization services and supportive communal housing.

Formed originally (as The Campus) in 1991 and reestablished again in 2017, the Simmering Center is one of 185 nonprofit facilities in the state of Missouri, which account for 72 percent of all facilities statewide.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

At the forefront of the services offered at Simmering Center is an acute social stabilization program. Typically completed within three to five days, this short-term option is designed for individuals seeking to safely withdraw from drugs and/or alcohol in a supportive 24-hour care environment. Assessments and referrals for any additionally needed services are also provided at this point. Following detox, clients may then apply for admittance into one of the nonprofit’s supportive living homes.

Recognizing that early recovery is a process that may take months or even years to gain footing in, Simmering Center offers clients who “consistently meet criteria” the opportunity to remain in sober living for as long as they need. During this time, be it months or years, residents benefit from a comprehensive curriculum of life skills classes, 12-step meetings, trauma education, and training in computer skills, budgeting, job interviews, amongst other areas considered essential for healthy independent living. Faith-based counseling is also available upon request.

There’s a dress code and ongoing drug testing for all clients. However, men and women within their first 30 days of supportive living must adhere to a 10 p.m. curfew while those who’ve been at the center for longer are to be home by 11 p.m. on weekdays and by midnight on Friday and Saturday evening. Individuals who follow their prescribed treatment plan can receive overnight passes months and years into their sobriety. Alumni who complete the program in good standing are welcome to attend all classes and meetings.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Simmering Center is staffed 24 hours per day, seven days a week by overnight staff. The nonprofit’s website also notes an ongoing need for qualified and experienced sponsors as well as drivers and individuals with electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance skills.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

According to its website, Simmering Center has the capacity to admit as many as three dozen adult men and women at a time. The center provides no further details on its living arrangements and related offerings, however.

The single Rehabs.com survey respondent polled on the matter left three and four out of five stars, respectively, for the center’s accommodations and meals.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The two program participants surveyed by Rehabs.com to date deviated in their perspectives on programming at the Simmering Center.

Both registering complaints, P.J.S., left only two out of five stars in indicating how effective they found treatment while the other survey respondent claimed that there was a shortage of counselors and programs. Contributing four stars in this area, however, the latter celebrated the center’s generosity in helping those who “cannot afford to pay.”

The Simmering Center also has a pair of five-star ratings as well as a one-star rating from three Google reviewers as of this writing. Only one review had any written commentary in it, however, it was disjointed as it was incomprehensible.

FINANCING

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Simmering Center is supported by tax-deductible contributions that help cover some of the costs of its stabilization and supportive living services. Residents in supportive living can expect weekly or monthly fees for the duration of their stay.

The nonprofit also accepts personal hygiene products, cleaning supplies, coffee and coffee supplies, and other items.

[1] GoogleReviews
