<p><strong>ABOUT STRUCTURED LIVING, LLC & THE STRUCTURED HOUSE ORGANIZATION</strong></p> <p>Structured Living, LLC & The Structured House Organization runs 10 <strong>sober living homes</strong> around Ann Arbor for adults struggling with substance use disorder. The network is unusual in allowing and even encouraging residents to participate in <strong>medication-assisted treatment (MAT)</strong>, such as <strong>Suboxone programming.</strong></p> <p>Structured Living itself offers <strong>medically assisted detox from opioids</strong> as well as longer-term MAT. In addition to offering sober living facilities, Structured Living is among the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MI17.pdf" target="_blank">36.8 percent</a> of facilities in Michigan that offer an <strong>intensive outpatient program (IOP).</strong> Clients who require more intensive treatment may be referred to nearby Brighton Hospital.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>All Structured Living sober houses are <strong>gender-specific.</strong> There's a suggested <strong>minimum stay of 90 days</strong>, positioning Structured Living among the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MI17.pdf" target="_blank">14.9 percent</a> of facilities in Michigan that offer residential treatment lasting longer than 90 days. In practice, clients often stay for far longer. All <strong>residents must find and keep a job</strong>, attend 12-step meetings, and attend a mandatory weekly house meeting. </p> <p>Clients who also opt to attend the IOP participate in <strong>individual and group counseling,</strong> including gender-specific groups and sessions on how to prevent relapse. The program also offers broader, more holistic programming, such as life skills training, <strong>spiritual awareness sessions</strong>, psychodrama and art therapy, <strong><a href="http://www.rehabs.com/pro-talk-articles/a-look-at-the-research-supporting-mindfulness-in-addiction-treatment/" target="_blank">mindfulness training</a>, yoga, art, and massage.</strong> Programming is offered in the daytime, the evening, and the weekend, to suit a variety of schedules.</p> <p>Clients struggling with opioid addiction are offered medication-assisted treatment using <strong>Subutex, Suboxone, or Vivitrol</strong> (the latter two of which are available at <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MI17.pdf" target="_blank">20 percent and 16 percent</a> of Michigan-based facilities, respectively).</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>According to the center’s website, the IOP is overseen by a master’s-level social worker who also works as a therapist at the University of Michigan. Both of the alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility five out of five stars for the level of staff support provided, and the single alum polled on the level of counselor training gave four out of five stars.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>Each of the organization’s homelike residences include <strong>full kitchens, cable TV, wireless internet,</strong> a house landline, and laundry facilities. Clients share a bedroom with one other resident and are required to make their beds and help maintain the home. Visitors of the opposite sex are not allowed, and a <strong>nightly curfew</strong> is strictly enforced. </p> <p>Clients are responsible for their own meals and transportation, but <strong>staff are available to assist unemployed clients with applying for public assistance</strong> and healthcare services. Additionally, the homes are located near major bus lines, shopping districts, and services. The two alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date on the center's cleanliness and exercise and leisure offerings gave four- and five-star ratings in each category.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>Both of the alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date would recommend treatment at Structured Living. Both reviewers noted the <strong>integrity of the management</strong> and the organization’s commitment to helping those in the recovery community. </p> <p>“The person behind this initiative is himself a recovering alcoholic since 1995 and supposedly very well off financially. He makes arrangements with the best service providers and is known to help people anonymously which I admire utmost," David wrote in a typical comment. The reviewers gave the facility a four-star rating and a five-star rating for the overall quality of its group counseling. The single reviewer who evaluated the center's holistic offerings and the overall quality of its individual counseling also gave four stars in each category.</p> <p>Structured Living has more <strong>mixed feedback on secondary sites</strong>, with average ratings of 3.3 out of five stars based on 16 reviews on Google, 4.5 stars based on 21 reviews on YellowPages.com, and 3.6 stars based on seven opinions on Facebook (where the facility can manage its own page).<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> <small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-2"><sup>[2]</sup></a></small> <small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-3"><sup>[3]</sup></a></small> </p> <p>Negative reviewers repeatedly described the facility as dirty, questioned the management's integrity, and <strong>noted concerns about clients' safety at the homes.</strong> "This place is a joke, they care more about your money than your life. Very unsafe environment, you must be willing to work your own strong program to survive here," Amberly wrote in a typical comment on Google. </p> <p>On the other hand, numerous reviewers wrote that they had achieved sobriety at Structured Living after numerous failed attempts elsewhere, and <strong>praised the center's staff</strong>, affordability, and effectiveness. Comfortable, Very modestly priced, Clean, Simple Strict Structure and Well Monitored," Joseph wrote in a representative review on YellowPages.com.</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>The fee for a month's stay at the sober living facility is <strong>$565.</strong> The MAT program for opioid addiction is offered free of charge, thanks to grants and donations.
