<p><strong>ABOUT WHITTIER STREET HEALTH CENTER</strong></p> <p>Based in Boston, MA., Whittier Street Health Center is a full-service primary care clinic that also offers <strong>outpatient counseling</strong> for children, adolescents, and adults seeking treatment for <strong>substance use disorder</strong>, behavioral health problems, or <a href="https://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurirng disorders</a>. <strong>Medication-assisted therapy</strong> utilizing Suboxone for opiate withdrawal is also available. Detox is not available. </p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Whittier Street Health Center is one of the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MA17.pdf" target="_blank">52 facilities in the state</a> that offer treatment options to adolescents. Adolescents, children, and adults can participate in behavioral health treatments including those intended for substance abuse.</p> <p>All clients receive a <strong>comprehensive assessment</strong> upon admission to determine the appropriate level and methods for care. As a part of the assessment, Whittier assesses for mental health disorder making it one of <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MA17.pdf" target="_blank">255 state facilities</a> to do so. </p> <p>Treatment includes <strong>individual therapy</strong>, family counseling, <strong>relapse prevention groups</strong>, and medication management for clients of all ages, and <strong>group therapy</strong> for adults. Medication-assisted therapy (MAT) is also available. Clients are given Suboxone to reduce the impact of withdrawal symptoms. Each year, only <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MA17.pdf" target="_blank">5.4 percent of clients in rehab</a> go through a MAT program in Massachusetts. </p> <p>In addition to substance use disorder, Whittier Street Health Center treats a wide range of mental health disorders including <strong>depression, PTSD, anxiety, ADHD, and bipolar disorder. The staff uses trauma-informed counseling methods</strong> to address these conditions with clients. Then, they work together to find ways of effectively minimizing them in everyday life. This could include other therapy options like <strong>Art Therapy</strong>, which is offered in conjunction with the Arts Therapy department. </p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>According to the facility's website, the treatment team consists of <strong>psychiatrists</strong>, psychologists, and <strong>nurse practitioners</strong>, along with social workers and <strong>licensed mental health counselors</strong>. It is one of <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MA17.pdf" target="_blank">99 facilities in the state</a> that are certified by the Joint Commission.
