<p><strong>ABOUT THE DIMOCK CENTER- BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES</strong></p> <p>The Dimock Center, located on the outskirts of Boston in Roxbury, Mass., provides a <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">continuum of care</a> for those struggling with behavioral health and substance abuse. As the largest community based agency in Roxbury, the center offers <strong>medically-monitored detox, outpatient treatment, separate residential programs for men and women, transitional housing, and permanent housing.</strong> It is one of only <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MA17.pdf" target="_blank">eight facilities in the state to offer detox services on an inpatient basis.</a> The Dimock Center is partners with Boston Medical Center, Deaconess Medical Center, and The Boston Children's Hospital.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Detoxification lasts up to two weeks and may involve <strong>medication-assisted</strong> treatment. An individualized treatment plan will be created for each client who is then referred to other services upon completion. Medications involved may include methadone, buprenorphine, clonidine and benzodiazepine.</p> <p>Dimock encourages detoxification participants to transition into on- and off-campus residential facilities for adult men and women. <strong>Six residential programs are available through Dimock.</strong> These include both long-term care (up to a year) and short-term care (under 30 days), gender-specific programs, and sober living programs for families with children.</p> <p>Residential treatments vary but most include <strong>motivational interviewing, harm reduction, case management, and group and individual counseling</strong>. <a href="https://www.recovery.org/topics/find-a-top-holistic-rehab-center/" target="_blank">Holistic programming</a> like art, <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/music-for-mental-fitness-mood-control/" target="_blank">music</a>, and yoga is offered, as is education on coping skills, the nature of addiction, and parental skill building. Some programs encourage vocational training. The men’s traditional program requires clients to find employment during the first month of treatment.</p> <p><strong>Outpatient programming</strong> for adults and adolescents at The Dimock Center includes group, individual, and family counseling and medication management. Clients can participate in groups focused on <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/how-understanding-anger-revolutionizes-addiction-recovery/" target="_blank">anger management</a>, relapse prevention and intervention, parenting, trauma, and dual-diagnosis.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The Dimock Center employs master’s-level clinicians, nurses, board-certified clinicians, psychiatrists, licensed social workers, physicians, recovery specialists and coaches, and medical assistants. Dimock is part of the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MA17.pdf" target="_blank">28.2 percent of Massachusetts facilities licensed by the Joint Commission.</a> The detox unit is licensed by the Department of Public Health, Bureau of Substance Abuse Services.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>Founded in 1862, Dimock Center’s campus of historical buildings is registered as a National Landmark in a neighborhood outside of Boston. Residential programming is provided on- and off-campus. Askia Academy provides treatment for 24 men, John Flowers Recovery Home accommodates 21 men. Beds for 22 women are available in My Sister’s House and 20 in the Women’s Renewal Clinical Stabilization Services. </p> <p>Families with children can reside in Ruth Kelley Ummi’s House for up to 24 months. It is one of only <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MA17.pdf" target="_blank">14 facilities in the state to offer residenital beds for clients' children.</a> The Dimock Center also has a 30-bed detoxification program.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>Two alumni who have responded to the Rehabs.com survey regarding The Dimock Center provided mixed reviews. Both agreed the center’s treatment was affordable and gave treatment effectiveness near-perfect four out of five star ratings. “Good treatment for a reasonable pricetag,” one anonymous alum wrote. However, both alumni gave the facility gave low one-star ratings for holistic options, exercise and leisure activities, and the cleanliness of the center. </p> <p>A second anonymous alum called the place “dirty” and noted that weaknesses included lack of groups and meetings. However, the alum wrote: “The staff they do have was very nice.”</p> <p>On the center’s Facebook page, which it may have the ability to manage, The Dimock Center earned 4.1 out of five stars based on 39 reviews.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> On Google 24 reviewers gave a more lukewarm average rating of 3.5 out of five stars.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-2"><sup>[2]</sup></a></small> It should be noted however that these reviews reflect an opinion of the facility as a whole rather than just the behavioral health components.</p> <p><strong>WHAT STAFF SAY</strong></p> <p>Rehabs.com has not yet received reviews from current or former staff members to date. However, employees at The Dimock Center gave the facility an average rating of 3.2 out of five stars based on 27 reviews on Glassdoor. <small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-3"><sup>[3]</sup></a></small> On Indeed, staff gave the center an average 3.4 stars out of five based on 38 reviews. <small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-4"><sup>[4]</sup></a></small> Though staff on both sites liked helping community members, some employees complained of poor communication with management, understaffed workers, and outdated technology.</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>Treatment programs at The Dimock Center are paid for through a combination of funding by the Massachusetts Bureau of Substance Abuse Services.
