<p><strong>ABOUT SOUTH SHORE MENTAL HEALTH CENTER, INC.</strong></p> <p>Founded in 1926, South Shore Mental Health Center provides <strong>outpatient, day treatment, and residential programs</strong> to children, adolescents, and adults. Through nine different Massachusetts locations from Boston to Cape Cod, clients with substance abuse and <strong><a href="https://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring psychiatric disorders</a></strong> can receive crisis stabilization, <strong>residential, and outpatient</strong> services. Specialized counseling services are available for members of the Asian community. Detox is not available on site.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Treatment at South Shore Mental Health Center begins with an initial assessment. Clients in need of immediate stabilization services can be admitted to the stabilization unit 24/7. Clients will be treated and monitored by train staff members until they can be fully stabilized. Clients are often referred by other facilities as well a the Department of Mental Health.</p> <p>Treatment consist of individual and family therapy, diagnostic evaluation, <strong>medication management</strong>, and therapeutic modalities such as <strong>dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)</strong>. Educational coursework is also provided to teach clients about their conditions and sober living skills. Treatments are tailored for different age groups. </p> <p>The Discovery day treatment program for adults with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders is <strong>offered as full- or half-days that cover health, fitness, emotional regulation, and skills-building</strong>. Clients are able to plan their treatment plan and recovery goals, picking from <strong>over 50 groups and activities</strong>, including art therapy, yoga, parenting skills groups, spirituality, and peer support.</p> <p>The Community-Based Flexible Supports (CBFS) program provides support for 200 adults living independently or in residences staffed by South Shore Mental Health. The program focuses on providing a flexible and engaging method of developing treatments for each client.</p> <p>Specialized courses are designed for different age groups. Child clients spend a larger amount of their time focusing and reducing the effects of trauma. </p> <p>Outreach is also an important part of all of the programs. The program connects with other organizations in the community to resolve specific issues and establishes support networks for clients. The Asian community is a common and prominent partner in addressing addiction and co-occurring disorders. </p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>South Shore Mental Health’s staff of over 550 includes physicians, nurse practitioners, clinical social workers, licensed mental health counselors, psychologists, and psychiatrists. Art and expressive therapists are also on staff.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>Details about living arrangements for residential clients is not available. However, in-home therapy sessions are available through multiple programs.</p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>The sole loved one of an alum surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing had an overall positive impression of the center, rating treatment effectiveness, meals, family participation, and staff level of experience five out of five stars. </p> <p>The anonymous loved one gave three out of five stars for accommodations, which they felt needed repairs and improvements. In commentary, the loved one wrote of a family-like atmosphere among staff and clients balanced with structure and enforced rules. “The staff there are very incouraging to the boys where there needing direction with rules and reinforcing a positive attitude,” the loved one wrote.</p> <p><strong>WHAT STAFF SAY</strong></p> <p>On Glassdoor, South Shore Mental Health received an average 2.7 out of five stars based on reviews from 23 former and current staff members. <small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> Although employees general enjoyed working with the clients and co-workers, <strong>several staff members commented on a dingy work environment</strong>, with one anonymous reviewer describing the building as “dim and depressing” and two employees describing poor morale. In a representative review, a former employee wrote: “My direct supervisor was exceptional. However, upper management needs to make more of a presence.”</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>According to the facility’s website, South Shore Mental Health contracts with a wide array of insurance plans, including BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, and TriCare to help clients afford treatment.
