Editorial Review

ABOUT NEW HORIZONS MEDICAL

New Horizons Medical was founded in 2009 by a group of physicians committed to physician-guided harm reduction treatment for opiate dependence. In other words, the organization offers outpatient medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid abuse at four centers in Quincy, Brookline, Lynn, and Framingham, Mass. The Quincy center is located toward the southwest of the city.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The medication most commonly used at New Horizons Medical is Suboxone, but the facility also uses Vivitrol when appropriate. Vivitrol is a once-monthly treatment that blocks opioid receptors in the brain, while Suboxone is itself an opioid.

Treatment doesn't stop at prescriptions: the program also includes counseling in individual, group, couples', and family settings, though there's no indication on New Horizons' website about how often clients are required to attend these sessions.

Depending on availability, facilities in the network can sometimes offer same-day appointments.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The Quincy location employs six MDs, who have between seven and 25 years of experience each. Counseling services are provided by two social workers and an addiction counselor.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The center is open all day Monday through Friday, and Saturday mornings.

REVIEWS

Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni, affiliated friends or family members, or staff, but secondary sites did yield one review: a one-star rating on Google.[1] "I Do not recommend this place! Horrible treatment, they make you wait forever at every appointment and are then rude to you!" was the appraisal of reviewer E.L.

FINANCING

New Horizons accepts Medicare and is in-network with various insurers, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana, and United. Some clients also receive coverage on an out-of-network basis, depending on their insurance provider.

[1] https://goo.gl/JQdxo1
