ABOUT HOPE HOUSE ADDICTION SERVICES

Hope House Addiction Services is the oldest and one of the largest residential rehab centers in Massachusetts. The Boston facility provides long-term residential recovery support for men and outpatient treatment for men and women struggling with substance abuse. Addressing the opioid crisis is a priority, and the rehab center emphasizes education, 12-step concepts, and re-integration into the local community. Medication-assisted therapy is also available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The Hope House residential treatment program involves four phases. The first, month-long, phase focuses on intensive Alcoholics Anonymous or other 12-step programming, along with HIV/AIDS and other health-related education, and group counseling addressing such issues as anger management and spirituality. Clients receive referrals to community services and health care providers with which the center coordinates.

In addition, during the first phase of treatment, residents participate in Hope House's Structured Outpatient Addiction Program (SOAP), which includes individual and group therapy sessions.

During the second phase of treatment, residents receive support in obtaining employment or, if they are physically unable to work, structured volunteer activities. They continue attending house meetings and participating in 12-step practices and counseling.

Clients work or volunteer for 30 hours a week, participate in weekly small group meetings, and prepare for transition into supportive housing or a return to family during the third phase. A fourth phase serves as aftercare for Hope House graduates. Residence in the organization's "Graduate House" is available to men who apply and receive strong recommendations from affiliated individuals in recovery. Alumni actively continue in all available services, including case management and outpatient therapy. Medication-assisted therapy involves counseling and support groups for clients receiving methadone or suboxone.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the facility's website, the Hope House treatment team includes numerous social workers and substance abuse counselors, several of whom hold master's degrees.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The official Facebook page of Hope House Boston notes that services take place in a multi-story, 35,000-square-foot facility with 95 residential beds. Photographs feature softball and basketball teams and an on-site gym and industrial kitchen.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

All four alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date provided positive feedback for Hope House Boston. Each rated the effectiveness of treatment either four or five out of five stars.

Two individuals polled more extensively also agreed that accommodations and meals were strongly satisfactory, but that opportunities for exercise and leisure were not, as indicated by two-star ratings. Their opinions were split between three- and five-star ratings for the staff's level of training and experience. "The staff is comprised of ex-addicts who take their sobriety serious and are always willing to help you," one alum wrote anonymously. The center had a need for more funding, they also reported.

Offering equally favorable feedback, seven individuals rated Hope House an average of 4.9 out of five stars on Google, although none included written commentary.[1]

FINANCING

Once they reach the work phase of the program, residents who are earning wages are expected to pay a small fee each week for accommodations, according to the Hope House website. Public and private insurance plans are accepted, and a sliding fee scale is available for outpatient treatment.

[1] https://goo.gl/9kQND7
