<p><strong>ABOUT GLENWOOD LIFE COUNSELING CENTER</strong></p> <p>Located in Baltimore, Md., Glenwood Life Counseling Center (GLCC) is a nonprofit that provides a range of treatment services for adults struggling with substance abuse, particularly opioid addiction. The facility offers an <strong>outpatient program</strong> and one of <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MD17.pdf" target="_blank">214 intensive <strong>outpatient programs (IOP)</strong> in the state.</a> In addition, <strong>medication-assisted therapy (MAT)</strong> is available to those who require it. Glenwood Life Counseling Center provides ambulatory detoxification services through its MAT program.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Upon admission into the program, clients participate in an initial substance abuse assessment to identify client needs and to ensure an appropriate level of care. <strong>The MAT program utilizes methadone</strong> to help curb opioid cravings and alleviate symptoms associated with withdraw. It is one of <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MD17.pdf" target="_blank">67 facilities in the state to offer methadone.</a> In most cases, the center utilizes MAT in addition to other treatment services. The facility states: “Medication coupled with counseling, peer support, and case management will help to ensure recovery from the disease of addiction.”</p> <p>While methadone helps to treat the physical dependency of opioid addiction, the facility also provides treatment services to address the <strong>emotional and psychological aspects of addiction</strong>. If a client requires a heightened level of care, the individual may be referred to the facility's IOP. IOP involves participating in three or four treatment sessions per week. These sessions include <strong>individual counseling sessions</strong>, as well as <strong>issue-specific counseling groups</strong>. The facility offers <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/reclaiming-the-feminine-in-recovery/" target="_blank">gender-specific groups</a>, symptom management groups, groups on coping and self-management skills, and anger management groups. Along with counseling, IOP involves <strong>drug free social activities</strong>, which may include luncheons, field trips, and art therapy sessions.</p> <p>To help clients succeed within the community, Glenwood Life Counseling Center also provides <strong>comprehensive case management</strong>. Case management is provided by peers in long-term recovery and may include referrals to additional substance abuse or mental health resources, assistance with health insurance applications, <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/how-addiction-can-interfere-with-your-job-performance/" target="_blank">employment searches</a>, G.E.D. testing, and location of appropriate housing. To assist in client recovery, <strong>family members are encouraged to participate in treatment and care coordination</strong> whenever possible. The center also facilitates <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/the-pain-of-addiction-in-the-family-how-counseling-can-help/" target="_blank">family and marital counseling</a>.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>Glenwood Life Counseling Center employs a multidisciplinary staff comprised of physicians experienced in addiction medicine, nurses, substance abuse counselors, and professional and peer case managers. It is part of the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MD17.pdf" target="_blank">32.6 percent of facilities in Maryland to be CARF accredited.</a></p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>While Rehabs.com has yet to receive alumni feedback at the time of this writing, secondary sources revealed generally positive alumni opinions of the facility. On Google, <strong>13 individuals to date awarded the facility an average rating of 3.9 out of five stars</strong>.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> Many <strong>alumni praised the facility’s MAT program and the effectiveness of staff</strong>. “A great program. Wonderful employee's. This program goes above and beyond to help with whatever your needs may be,” representative reviewer Neil wrote. Alum Stormy added, "This place changed my life for the better half of six to seven years."</p> <p>On the other hand, Carolyn awarded just one star and wrote: "Staff members are uncaring for some who are independent thinkers... no compassion, no counseling to help."</p> <p>Additionally, there are 16 reviews on the facility's Facebook page, which it may have the ability to manage. Ratings averaged 4.6 out of five stars.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-2"><sup>[2]</sup></a></small> Most <strong>alumni praised the staff and program</strong> with multiple claiming that it had saved their lives.</p> <p><strong>WHAT STAFF SAY</strong></p> <p>The sole employee polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing echoed many of the positive opinions of alumni, though differed in their opinion concerning the experience of its staff members. “Psycho social educational groups were a strength but inexperience personnel not so,” the anonymous employee wrote. Out of five stars, the survey respondent gave four stars for the facility’s counseling options and for the facility’s cleanliness; however, they offered a lower three-star rating for the level of family participation in treatment and a two-star rating for the facility’s discharge planning.</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>Glenwood Life Counseling Center accepts most major insurance plans.
