<p><strong>ABOUT BALTIMORE STATION</strong></p> <p>Baltimore Station is one of <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MD16.pdf" target="_blank">146 (36.3 percent) nonprofit treatment facilities</a> in Maryland, located in the center of the city. Offering long-term residential treatment, like just <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MD16.pdf" target="_blank">15.7 percent (63 total)</a> of facilities in the state, this program is for <strong>homeless men</strong>, most of them <strong>veterans</strong>, who are struggling to break free of the cycle of poverty, homelessness, and substance abuse.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>The program’s aim is to break the vicious cycle of poverty, homeless, and addiction, and help residents to achieve self-sufficiency. Only <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MD16.pdf" target="_blank">92 (22.9 percent)</a> treatment centers in Maryland offer specially-tailored programming to veterans.</p> <p>Treatment begins with a comprehensive assessment, which is used to put together a written treatment plan. Once the program is underway, <strong>individual and group therapy</strong> are supplemented by education about alcohol and drugs and <strong>holistic therapies</strong> such as Tai Chi, fishing outings, drama therapy, and acupuncture.</p> <p>As part of its goal to helps clients toward self-sufficiency, the center offers <strong>extensive life-skills training and practical assistance,</strong> specifically workforce development and job placement services, as well as connections to legal, family, and community services.</p> <p>According to the facility’s website, most successful graduates go on to live independently and either hold a steady job or enroll at college. Former graduates have gone on to work at museums, hospitals, airports, schools, and local businesses.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>Staff includes master’s level counselors and case managers, and several staff members are themselves graduates of Baltimore Station. In Maryland, <a href="https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/report_3059/ShortReport-3059.pdf" target="_blank">97.8 percent</a> of treatment facilities have continuing education requirements for their staff.</p> <p>The single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the center <strong>four out of five stars for its staff’s level of training and experience</strong>.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>From an attractive red-brick building on a tree-lined urban street, Baltimore Station offers <strong>144 beds.</strong> This offering is quite spacious, as the median number of people in a non-hospital, residential treatment facility at a given time is just <a href="https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/2016_NSSATS.pdf" target="_blank">18 clients</a>.</p> <p>In addition to addiction treatment, the center provides recreational activities such as golf and fishing, among other outings. The single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the center <strong>four stars for its meals and its cleanliness, two stars for its accommodations</strong>, and <strong>one star for its exercise and leisure offerings</strong>.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The single review submitted to Rehabs.com to date was mostly positive. “Good treatment too many restrictions,” the anonymous reviewer wrote, indicating that they <strong>would strongly recommend</strong> treatment at Baltimore Station, and giving the facility four stars for its treatment effectiveness and its counseling options. </p> <p>This former client believed "VA Assistance" to be the main strength of the facility, but noted "counselors" as the weakness. T.W. wrote, "Baltimore Station is actually the Primary recovery center in Baltimore City!
