ABOUT SEASIDE HEALTH SYSTEM — BATON ROUGE

Established in 2009, Seaside Healthcare LLC operates several locations throughout Louisiana that provide treatment for individuals struggling with psychiatric disorders, substance abuse, and dual diagnosis. The organization offers a continuum of care, ranging from acute hospitalization through several intensities of outpatient care.

This Baton Rouge facility, located immediately south of Roselawn Cemetery in central Baton Rouge, offers inpatient care through both voluntary and involuntary admissions, as well as medical detoxification. It is worth noting that this location is one of only 16 hospital-based inpatient centers in Louisiana to offer detox services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Seaside’s continuum of care is built around “seven pillars” which include assessment, plan development, crisis intervention planning, case management, rehabilitation, wellness and prevention, and finally, discharge planning and review.

Seaside Behavioral’s website indicates that programming offered at this facility includes medical detox, crisis reduction, medication management, group counseling/education, as well as individual counseling as needed. Mindfulness training and 12-step work are also incorporated into the treatment plan.

Before discharge, all clients leave with a discharge plan and a referrals to further care, which may include referrals to outpatient programs operated by Seaside.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Seaside Healthcare LLC employs psychiatrists, counselors, social workers, and support staff. The single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date, a staff member at the facility, gave the hospital a four-star rating for its staff’s level of training and experience.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings; however, the single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date, an employee, gave the facility two out of five stars for its accommodations, meals, and overall cleanliness.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Rehabs.com has yet to receive alumni feedback to date. However, on Google Reviews, the facility received an average rating of 2.6 out of five stars based on 15 total reviews.[1] Most negative reviews cited the facility’s customer service as a weakness. L.J., an alum, gave one star and wrote “I called the operator this morning...she hung up on me in the middle of my question. Unprofessional is as accurate as it gets.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

On Google reviews, loved one M.H., who gave one star, was not happy with the staff. "They were extremely rude and not helpful by any means. Under their care they were extremely rough with an old patient letting her fall and be injured then never taking her to the hospital,” the loved one wrote.

WHAT STAFF SAY

At the time of this writing, the sole respondent to the Rehabs.com survey was a staff member who also gave the facility a mixed review. Although the anonymous staff member gave the facility four stars for the experience and training of staff and its ability to treat co-occurring disorders, they gave two stars for family participation, counseling options, and discharge planning. “Poor lackadaisical treatment programs rely too heavily on medications," the staff member wrote.

FINANCING

According to an official brochure, Seaside accepts most insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, Aetna, Blue Cross, Cigna, Humana, United, and Value Options. In Louisiana, 62.5 percent of facilities accepts Medicaid.

CONCLUSION

According to an article by the Greater Baton Rogue Business Report, state budget cuts have "led to a dramatic reduction in the number of psychiatric beds available for lengthy stays" in Baton Rogue. Due to these shortages, area hospitals are struggling to treat psychiatric patients through hospital ERs.

[1] Google Reviews
