ABOUT OWENSBORO REGIONAL RECOVERY

Located in Owensboro, Ky., Owensboro Regional Recovery (ORR) is a transitional living facility for adult men recovering from chemical dependency. Typically, residents have been recently discharged from a residential treatment program and utilize the program as an aftercare service. Founded in 2010, ORR specializes in serving men who are homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless. A 2017 SAMHSA survey indicates that 39.8 percent of treatment facilities in Kentucky offer programs specifically tailored to adult men.

According to the Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC), ORR is one of the 13 recovery centers that comprise the Recovery Kentucky program, a state government initiative designed to reduce the state’s drug problem and resolve some of the state’s homeless issues.

Recovery Kentucky is a joint effort by the Department for Local Government (DLG), the Department of Corrections, and KHC. ORR operates as a partnership between Audubon Area Community Services, Inc. and Light House Recovery Services, Inc.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to KHC, each Recovery Kentucky center uses a recovery program model that includes peer support, daily living skills classes, training, and job responsibilities and challenges to establish new behaviors and practice independent sober living.

The centers, including ORR, are modeled after the Hope Center in Lexington and The Healing Place in Louisville, which heavily emphasize the 12-step model of recovery

Residents typically participate in the transitional program between six and nine months, depending on individual needs and the resident's progress in the program. In Kentucky, ORR is among the 40.1 percent of facilities to offer some form of employment counseling or training for clients.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

ORR employs peer mentors who are also in active recovery. These peer mentors may facilitate group activities and the facility's day-to-day operations.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

According to KHC, ORR can accommodate up to 100 men at a time. A 2017 SAMHSA survey indicates that there are 48 designated beds on average in residential treatment facilities in Kentucky.

Though there is currently no further information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings, the two individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date gave high ratings to most relevant categories, including meals and nutrition, exercise and leisure options, cleanliness and maintenance of facilities, and overall accommodations and amenities.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

While Rehabs.com has not polled any alumni to date, secondary review sources yielded very positive feedback from alumni. On the facility's Facebook page, which staff can manage, 98 individuals awarded the facility an average rating of 4.9 out of five stars.[1] Alumni tended to praise the staff and the transitional program's positive lasting effect.

"This place helped me to change my life and I have a debt to the program and the people who work here," Matt, a representative reviewer, wrote. Alumni Jason added: "It has done more for me than any other program I have been to." On Google, four alumni each gave five-star reviews.[2]

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The two loved ones polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing echoed the positive opinions of alumni. Out of five stars, both survey respondents offered five-star ratings for the amount of family participation in the program. One of the loved ones gave five-star ratings to nearly all other metrics assessed, including counseling options, staff support, and pricing. The anonymous reviewer cited "every day life, meetings, support" as the facility's strengths.

The other loved one also offered four-star ratings for the facility's counseling options. However, the loved one cited a lack of exercise as a weakness.

FINANCING

ORR is partly funded by KHC, the Department for Local Government, and the Kentucky Department of Corrections. However, the facility also accepts Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance.

According to a 2017 SAMHSA survey, 42.3 percent of rehabs in Kentucky receive federal, state, county, or local government funding. The same survey indicates that 39.3 percent accept Medicare, 64.6 percent accept Medicaid, and 64.6 percent accept private health insurance.

[1] https://www.facebook.com/pg/OwensboroRegionalRecovery/reviews/?ref=page_internal
[2] GoogleReviews
